I'm a computer science student and software engineer and I'm new to this.

Greetings,

My name is Brian and like the title says, I'm a CS student and a software engineer. I can make web applications, sites, etc and I just wanted to introduce myself to this community. I joined because I'm interested in the affiliate marketing world and need to find a way to get started. I am a member of fluxads, but I'd like to receive advice from experts about how I should approach affiliate networks and what are some tips to help me get started with CPA, pay per click, and how to go about monetizing space on my apps. I'm confused as to how each type of advertising works.

I look forward to receiving answers and I hope to contribute to this community one day. Oh, and if you have any website based technical questions, feel free to ask away!

Head on over to the War Room, there are many Affiliate marketing 101-type starter materials there. Also, you can try clicking on the BLOGS on the signatures of the posters on this sub-forum to get some tips. Best of luck and welcome aboard!

If you're a CS major why dont you try and do a start-up? Im willing to bet there are some entrepreneurial resources in your university that you could take advantage of as well.

    Hey Brian,

Nice to meet you. Cs and Software Engineering skills are two skills that can be very useful in the internet marketing realm.

I'd suggest reviewing the basics of IMing in order to have a firm understand of what "IMers" need. It'll be a great way for you to brainstorm ideas and applications that may become "sellable"

You could start in wordpress, and build "plug and play" plugins that allow marketers to do something in a short period or convenient time.

Test your ideas in that scale, then maybe once you feel comfortable you've discovered a great "value add" niche, jump into building a desktop / online application.

    I'm sure you'll do great!

    Best of Luck.

Thank you for the responses guys! I've followed Asknwhy's advice and did a quick research about the fundamentals of internet marketing. It looks like display advertising, affiliate marketing, and cpa are the fields most suitable for my interests. I've looked into startups, but have decided I must truly connect with the business model to dedicate my life to an endeavor of that scale. I'm currently developing a facebook app (which received positive feedback from an alpha test user group) and will see how far that takes me . I'm truly looking forward to participating with this community...and you will probably see me answer a few questions in various threads as I start gaining knowledge!

Nice of you to join this world Brian,

I wish I had tech skills like you!

One thing I will say is dont get caught up in the technical details of affiliate marketing and Internet Marketing, keep looking at it big picture!

There are plenty of affiliate 101 courses out there, but I would be a good Salesman if I didnt tell you that I had one.

Check my signature for details, its free!
