So I'm getting decent traffic but no money...

I'm given to understand that 250 hits a day is good traffic?

When I ran a dating site back in the day I was getting 1,000 or more a day unique and was doing pretty well with the marketing end of it. I stopped running that site for personal reasons.

Anyway, I'm trying to get my current site up to that traffic level (I figure maybe 3 months and I'll be there).

But as I read on here, people talk about how they put in x amount of work and got 100 hits and I'm starting to think that my traffic is outstanding, but my conversions are abysmal.

I need to know what I can do to raise my conversions. Both in click-throughs on affiliate links and in sign-ups on my list.

Remy Sheppard | Motivation. Success. Freedom. is the site in question.

Feel free to be extremely honest. It wont hurt my feelings.

When you say 250 hits a day do you mean visits or page views? As technically a hit is reported in some analytics software is any request to the server so if you had 50 images in a page that would count as 50 hits.

That aside, I just visited 5 pages and must say your writing is quite good. However I didn't notice any affiliate links within the content of those posts. Actually I take that back just got some affiliate links on the 6th post. More links will equal more sales.

Another thing (which I need to fix on my site also) is to provide more of an incentive for visitors to join your mailing list. In the past I have offered free training courses and ebooks which provided a decent sign up rate.

Exactly as above, nice looking site but there wasn't anything to buy or click through to that I could see anyway?

Tonight I'll make that my mission - lace more links through my content.

Tomorrow I'll draw up an incentive to get more opt ins.

Thank you guys (this is stuff I feel like I knew, but wasn't paying attention to). Information overload, I suppose.

Also, 250 hits a day I mean unique views. Traffic has slowed a bit the past few days, but I'm looking for it to pick up as I have just had a few guest posts published at prominent blogs.

I have a site - TheMacMania - obviously about Mac related stuff and it started to take off when I got to 400 visitors per day. Before it was more luck that I made money.
I agree with buzilla - you need more than a few affiliate links and you definitely need a call to action.
    also, maybe you can explain:
what is your site all about? i see it is about "sex" and "women" related stuff but then in your signature it says motivation. freedom. success.
seems i get it wrong, maybe others do as well?
    no critique, just wondering

No - the number itself is meaningless.

It's more important who that traffic is and why they arrive at your site.

You could get 10,000 "visitors" a day by buying pop-under ads but you may not make a single sale from that traffic.

So without a good understanding of who the visitors are, how they got there and what their expectations were - the number is irrelevant.

If the traffic is even slightly untargeted you're not likely to get much response from only a few hundred visitors.

If you can check your stats and see what they do when they arrive that would help.

When they land on your site do they look around and spend time on your internal pages? or do they click away quickly?

If they're spending time - definitely work on making your signup a clear action. If they're not, then look at where they're coming from and if it's even worth spending time trying to convert them.

I could go on all day but you probably need to do more checking your stats at this point so I'll stop there.

Your call to action is not clear. Have more call to action buttons. How are you visitors getting to your website? I can get a million visitors to my website but doesn't mean any of them are targeted visitors looking to spend money.

One thing I would add is an About page. If you're going to give advice to people about how to succeed in life (or various parts of it), they're going to want to know that you yourself have walked the walk. Otherwise you just come off as some guy who's put up a site... It's the whole legitimacy/authority thing. So give some stats. Are you a certified PUA? Do you work for yourself now, and make a bunch of money doing that? Are you fit/buffed? Etc. If you're not already all of those things, and the blog is more an "on the way" kind of thing, that's fine too. Just be clear about who you are and what you're doing.

It really matters if the niche is a buyer filled one, how you monetize your site and why are your visitors on the website. Also try to experiment with the ad placement and different offers too.

    Track everything with analytics.

Create some events and start tracking every button click, and every conversation.
Maybe its just not targeted traffic, or you are ranking for the wrong keywords.

    Try to solve it

    Wish you best luck!

To get people to sign up to get engaged, sign up for your list, visit again, and sell them something you have to offer something of value.

Right now you just say "Sign Up". Why should they? Examples: get a free eBook, get notified about the motivation video of the month, etc.

Besides a small sign up box on the right, I don't see that you are actually selling or offering anything.

If you are just going to offer free content, then you should use AdSense to monetize, not affiliate links.

For instance on my site's home page there is an immediate focus: something of value (free royalty free music) and AdSense ads (revenue).

From there I have a mid level offer (donations) and back end ClickBank product. Its all very clear that 1. I am offering something 2. Here is how to pay.

I just don't see anything like that on your site.

It depends on how you're getting the traffic and the offers you're promoting.

Make sure you're promoting offers that're related to your site niche

Your site looks pretty good for me. I suggest you just make some good ad placement with your site. For sign ups I think you should something for free first and once you got a good list you could send some good offers from it that is related to what you are promoting.
