MP4 and FLV are just "containers", and have absolutely nothing to do with the quality that your video is converted at. What does affect quality is...

* What codec you use (ie h.264, VP8, etc)
* Bitrate
* Frame rate

That said, this is a good free converter, in my opinion.

That said, this is a good free converter, in my opinion.

I've used Freemake Video Converter too, it's worth the try.

(I've admittedly also used VLC [yikes] before my patience run out, way back when.)

Due to its fast loading time, FLV is rather popular on Youtube and such video streaming sites.
However, MP4 would be the preferred pick if you were looking to enhance the video with chapters and menus;
Plus MP4 has an advantage over FLV when playing the videos on Apple devices since iOS does NOT support Flash videos which run on Flashplayer. (We would not want to lock out the massive iPhone/iPad/iPod market now, would we? Thought so too...!)

I used to use Faasoft's great "Video Converter" to convert WMV to MP4, FLV, MOV, AVI, etc.

First of all, you need to make sure why do you convert WMV videos? If you want to upload it to Vimeo or other video-sharing sites, I suggest you to convert WMV to FLV, which is well supported by websites. If you want to want to further use your WMV videos like saving them on iPad, I think you'd better convert WMV videos to MP4. As Brandon said the format doesn't affect the quality of the video but if you use a low quality setting to convert to, it will be low quality. If you are planning to upload to the internet I suggest you always use FLV for web upload. MP4 will work in most cases but FLV always works for the web

If you would like to use in the Online FLV. The Quality of the FLV is good for online. You can choose the MP4 also, if you want. Or, you can convert a video into these two format. Then you can check which is the best one. Then you will be able to decide which one is the best one.

Convert to FLV or SWF format. These are the 2 types of flash videos. You should get a converter tool that will convert your WMV videos into flash format, dramatically reduce size, and maintain excellent quality.

The tool that i use to do this is: iWisoft Flash SWF to Video Converter. It does the conversion on both ends.

Most of the time, I use the FLV for online purpose. But sometimes I use the MP4 also. I think the FLV will be the best one for good resolution. Thanks a lot.
