Struggling IM In Need of help ASAP!

Hello All,
My name is George I am new here to the forum. I would like to become a full time IM. I'm tired of the everyday struggle of working full time and not making the type of money I really want. I have been trying some things over the past few months to make it online but have failed. I have sent email blasts through arcamax.com and have also just sent direct traffic to some affiliate offers through Google and websites like lead impact. I have made a few dollars here and there but nothing constant. I would appreciate any help from anyone out there that will give it. I know that I need to create my own website and build a list but honestly I don't know where to start. Should I make a website or just a squeeze page to get peoples emails? How do I get back links and traffic to my site? Should I create several different sites or just start with one? When creating a list how do I market to it? Should I just send the offers or create good informational content and send to subscribers? As you can see I have several questions and no answers can someone please help me?

    Hi George,

May I suggest that you start by reading this book here: TalkBiz News: What you really need to know to succeed online - Online business building newsletter

It's free. Once you have read it you will have a better understanding of the different ways you can make money online.

Something will jump out at you, will get you all excited and have you thinking to yourself "I can do this".

Then search this forum for all the information that you can find on that particular topic and READ. Then put together a list of steps that you need to do to get it done.

Once you have that list - decide what you can do yourself and what you would need someone else to help you with.

Then you need to scrape together a few dollars and find some people here in the Warriors For Hire section that help you get it done.

One step at a time is the only way to do it

You have to FOCUS!!! Just do one thing for now.

    Di

    Hi George,

I am not going to give you a whole lot of ideas here because then you would be really confused.

There is a book on the market that I read personally and I really think that it covers everything you just asked about and talks about the affiliate marketing world and how to become successful.

Yes, the ideas from this book still work well today.

    The book is called:

How I made my first million online and how you can too by Ewen Chia.

This is not an ebook. It is a real and physical one that you will get through mail to your house.

You can get it on Amazon.com.

Should I make a website or just a squeeze page to get peoples emails?

It depends upon the kind of products you are trying to promote. If they are physical goods from Amazon, you can set up a review website and also build list on the site. However, if you are in a niche market where you are promoting digital products like eBooks then it is better to send visitors to a squeeze page.

How do I get back links and traffic to my site?

Getting traffic is entirely a different course in IM. There are paid techniques as well as free ways. Getting backlinks will help you in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that your website ranks in search engine. There is more to it than just getting back links. It depends upon competition for the term you wish to rank for, on-page SEO etc. If you are new to all these, I would suggest to get the education while using free methods to promote the website which include - viral eBooks, article marketing, forum signatures, classified ads, twitter, facebook, blog commenting, guest posting, video marketing, press releases.

Should I create several different sites or just start with one?

That is entirely upto you. If you can manage more than one website then go for it. We only have 24 hours a day and if you make effective use of the hours which count, you will do good. It always helps to have a plan to complete the tasks.

When creating a list how do I market to it?

If you are into affiliate marketing then selling is the job of the merchants. You just need to focus on getting traffic to the sales page of the merchant. You can do this by telling people how the product or service helps solve their problem and then guide them to the website.

Should I just send the offers or create good informational content and send to subscribers?

If you just keep sending freebies, people will get used to it and will be expecting freebies from you. So, a good mixture of offers and freebies should be the way to go...

Depends on your niche. Look at what others are doing.

LeadImpact works great. You just have to stick with it.

Whatever you do, stick with it. It is easy when you are starting off to get frustrated, and jumped to a new method. But be persistent.

    It pays.

Whether you should make a squeezepage or a blog really depends on you and your niche. The most important thing if you want to build a list is your ability to drive traffic to your site. You can do this in different ways such as forummarketing, article marketing, youtube, social media,SEO etc.

    Whoa!

All this advice and the OP doesn't even know what business he
    is in yet!

Step One: Pick a niche. Choose a topic where you have some skill,
knowledge and experience. Something that you are really interested
    and enthusiastic about.

Step Two: Research the market to see if there are sufficient people with
money to spend in that niche.

Step Three: Do some competitive research... what products and
services are already available in the niche? Are there any gaps that
you could fill? Are there any products or services that you could
improve? Are there any products/services being sold by affiliates?

When you are sure there is a viable business opportunity THEN come
back and ask questions about traffic, conversions, backlinks, etc.

Whatever you do, make sure not to fall into "shiny object syndrome" and fall for every new product that comes out that promises the world. I recommend reading threads of people who have been successful doing what you are trying to do, and then look into the methods of authorities in your area of interest. Alex Jeffreys and Lee Murray come to mind off the top of my head.

From a fellow Newbie George to a fellow Newbie George.

Start a blog, I was flying all over the place when I first started, crappy squeeze pages here, crappy affiliates sites there and half finished websites everywhere!

One month agoI set up my blog and for once in my short journey I feel like im slowly starting to plant my seeds.

With my blog im growing my:

    List
    Readership
    Brand
    Value
    Skills

Find a skill, trade or bright idea and start of with a blog and see where that goes.

But remember it takes time and effort, its not going to happen over night!

I agree with what everyone else already said.

You are having problems and feeling discouraged because you don't understand the process you have to follow.

You have to study and learn.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success. I hope this post brings some clarity. It's so simple when you know it -- and darn difficult when you don't! I owe my mentors a world of thanks for bringing this clarity.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

      1. Products
      2. Services

      That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

      Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

      1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

      2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

Affiliate marketing falls under both models. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

      3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

      Pick just ONE!

      1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

      2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

      3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

      F -- Follow
      O -- One
      C -- Course
      U -- Until
      S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (It's no longer available.) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

      Hope this helps!

      Michelle

There are roughly about a zillion threads on this forum that contain stories similar to yours. The funny thing is the advice you will receive can, quite often, be contradictory.

"Focus on one thing - learn that well, don't get distracted" they'll say.

"Diversify you income, don't rely on any one IM model or strategy" they'll say.

The one piece of advice that should resonate however is the following:

Do not chase the magic, easy, overnight solution aka the magic button.
(Translation: Do not spend too much time in the WSO forum).

I spent far too much of my own time getting distracted by that kind of dreamland stuff. Then I developed a simple but effective strategy, (not revolutionary mind you), called lists!

I simply made a rough estimate of how much time I could devote to IM-related activities each day and then listed various tacks that I could realistically get through in that timeframe. It's not the stuff of copyrighting dreams I'll grant you. It didn't make me an overnight success either. What it did enable me to do was to gradually make progress and slowly and sometimes painfully take those steps up the mountain. But if you put in the hard work you will get there. It's a cliche but that doesn't necessarily negate its central truth, hard work pays off and a little organisation. That, for me at least, was the only method I found that worked. And completing those mini-tasks each day did give me a real sense of satisfaction, even if in the early days the revenue was virtually non-existent. Just persist but persist thoughtfully!

      Excellent advice

I started online about 10 years ago, and whilst IM was easier back then it was still a very steep learning curve.

I think today it is very easy to sidetracked and pulled 'every which way' by the new silver button 'magic money button' that makes you wealthy overnight - PLEASE it does not happen.

However, i have found that in 2013, after Google updates and SEO getting harder & harder, that the best direction would be that of list building.

Have a look on this forum for list building tactics, find an offer on clickbank or paydtocom, put up a simple squeeze page, give away a PLR report. Then drive some paid traffic from banner ads (buysellads) & get some subscribers from Safe-Swaps - get 1000 email subscribers in the IM niche and make some commissions to build your list further & further.

That would be my 1 year plan to wealth starting today.

Hi George, you have to focus on a strategy...either paid content or free content.

With paid content you are generating money through sales of ebooks, membership websites, informational products, webinars, online training through Skype etc.

With free content your focus is on building up traffic and a list to sell affiliate offers, joint ventures, google adsense ads and other monetization strategies.

You have to pick one to start and focus on. I would say the free content is a lot easier to start off with than the paid content, as you are just focused on building a site with good information and a list. Then let other people do the selling part for you and get an affiliate commission or adsense income.

It is pretty hard for people just starting out to do paid content, but if you are in a good niche you can give it a shot.

Start with a blog and write 1 post a day. Put adsense on the blog. Monetize the site first and get your feet wet. Then you can jump into paid content when you know what you're doing. You'll learn a lot just by that. Then can go from there.
