How Many Lists Do I Need???

I have two lists so far, one that has around 100 subscribers. On this list are the more professional marketers, and on my other list are the newbies. That list has about 160 subs. I'm getting great conversions and clickthroughs on the list with the experienced subs, but horrible clicks and conversions on the list with the newbies. I'm about to give up on that list, and just focus on my main one. I am paused by a question that I may regret to not answer later on, and that is, wether or not I should keep both lists, or focus on one first. How many lists should I have, eventually have? To make a consistent income online?

Much appreciated.

There isn't a fixed answer to this.

There are people making a very good living from one list, and there are people with 15 lists earning very little. It depends on many factors. The number of lists isn't necessarily, in itself, an income-determining aspect of a business.

That said, in general the more you can possibly segregate lists, the better. List segregation is all advantages, and no disadvantages at all that I'm aware of.

The things that matter, with list-building, relate to quality and relevance. (And "relevance", in this context, means more or less "targeting", which can only ever be helped by list-segregation). http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

("Quality", in this context, relates to open-rates and responsiveness. Be aware that a list of 1,000 with a 60% open-rate is typically worth much, much more income than a list of 3,000 with an open-rate of 10%. Not just "twice as much", as you might superficially expect from those figures. The second one is usually by far the easier one to build, though, which is why so many people who look at it primarily in terms of "subscriber numbers" have gone wrong).

I would not through out any list, you should try and sub divide the list and try to A/B split test the list and see why they are not purchasing your products. May be the wording on the page is not right or it is the wrong background color, this really affects peoples moods to purchase products. I read through this and it was very insightful and intresting hope it helps. The Ultimate Guide To A/B Testing | Smashing Magazine, Good Luck.

Don't look at your unresponsive list as a waste of time but as an opportunity to become a better marketer. Put in the effort required to learn what the prospects on that list want or how they respond to different marketing techniques. Practice and hone your marketing skills on this group. Track everything you do so that when they respond to something you do you will know exactly what it is that is working. Then take what is working and tweak, test, and track again until you find something that works better with this group. If you do this you will have learned a great deal about marketing and how to effectively build a relationship with people you don't know and once you have that skill you will begin to see dramatic changes in your business.

1 can be more than enough for most people.

    So people 20+.

More list doesn't equal more money.

I personally would just send a questionaire to your unresponsive list and ask them what they prefer to see or what they are interested in.

They can reply back and let you know with feedback which can better help you in what you promote to that list and better understand their particular wants and needs.

Make sure and write a nice email with maybe 3 to 4 questions and no more.

It works, try it and see.

Yes this is the best answer here, you need to survey your list. However 1 question, did you abuse your list? meaning did you just spam them with affiliate links or have you made an effort to deliver value to them?

Well this is a good method. But if they are not responding well maybe you didn't have a good email sequence for that list or you didn't build relationship with them. Since this is not a responsive list, if i were you I would actually not bother with them much, continue building more lists and improve my email sequence and give them good value content in my email. Just don't cling onto your list and don't waste your time and effort into focusing on that list. Just don't give up.
          Cheers

I would focus on what is most exciting, interesting and profitable for you.

For instance I have two types of people who come to my website.

    - Fans who listen to my music for free and may click some ads.

    - People use my music in their videos, apps, games, etc. and actually donate or buy my ClickBank package.

Obviously I focus on #2 paying users, but I still allow fans to check out and download music.

So Id keep the newbie list and if you happen to run into something to send them, fine. Otherwise keep your focus on the experienced guys.

  • nicolasmd2112,

Just want to congratulate you on achieving those subscribers.

I'd keep the newbie list and continue to build trust with them by offering valuable content - be patient and think of it as a girlfriend who's new at relationships. You need to prove to her why you're trustworthy and why she should give in her heart (their money) to you. She's still trying to figure you out.

You're a great guy with valuable traits (authority/valuable content) and your job is to show all of that to her (your list)

Any way I hope you are a guy reference this example, my assumption based on your name "nicolas" - lol.

    Best of success

I would build out way more subscibers....I am pushing about 5k. On your Newb list...just keep pushing solid value, survey them what they want, and then BOOM sell them something really SOLID that they can use and you know it is a really good product that will be helping your list and then they will fall in Love with you .

Remember build a relationship first and then offer suggestions/offers that can help solve problems...obviously they are on your list for a reason now.
