I've got Google Analytics set up. What now?

OK, I've got GA set up and it's now reporting all sorts of things.

That's great -- but I'm at a bit of a loss about what to do with all this data.

My questions for you kind folks:

* What are the *key* numbers I should be watching?
* What are the numbers I shouldn't pay much attention to?
* Do you have a "system" for checking your numbers (i.e. do you check once a day for 5 minutes, look at one metric or another and then log off, or do you look over lots of numbers once a week?)

Any other tips or tricks for making this work for me, not be the cause of number overload? Any good books or reports on the subject you'd recommend?

Thanks!

The three keys I check daily are: traffic, sources of traffic and conversions.

    Hey Jon,

    Yeah, definitely pay attention to:
    - Visitors
    - Unique visitors
    - Pageviews (this will tell you how many pages are getting read. Ideally it's more than 1.
    - Bounce rate (number of visitors that show up, view that one landing spot, and leave).
    - Content (what's getting the hits / your most popular posts)
    - Sources (see where people are coming from, find out what keywords are bringing people in)

I second what is stated above.

Also check what people are viewing. Which posts get the most visits, how long, etc.

Maybe add another a more prominent opt-in box on those pages. Or ask for shares. Or include affiliate links. Etc.

If you're anything like me you'll become addicted to GA. You'll be logging in everday to see what's working and what isn't. Basically, I do everything the guy above does.

Get stuck in mate, it's loads of fun....if you're a bit of a geek, ha!

I wish I was a geek -- at least when it comes to stuff like this

I'm super right-brained -- numbers make my head hurt. But I know I gotta do a better job of knowing where my traffic is coming from and what it's doing, so I'm in.

I hear you. I've never been brilliant with numbers but what I found is that when these numbers are potentially a benefit to me, I became pretty clued up. Good luck....
