PayPal and sending a download link

hi everyone,
just have a quick question. I want to sell a product totally with paypal and would like that paypal sends the customer after he has successfully purchased a product a download link with e-mail. (I dont want that he will just get redirected to another site if payment is successful because he can accidentally close the site and then he doesnt have the download link anymore)

is this possible? could not find anything in paypal where I can set this up.

    Hey enigma2k,

I don't think Paypal will let you do this either. But you can use a service that will integrate with Paypal like e-junkie.

I personally use this service and absolutely love it. And it's really cheap. I think if you took a look at the features they have, it might be what you're looking for.

Here's the link: E-junkie Shopping Cart for selling downloads & tangible goods (not an affiliate link)

    Hope that helps,
    Brad

thanks for the tip with e-junkie. I will definitly try it out!

Do they also offer a nice item management or do I have to make each "buy now" button manually like I have to do with the paypal shopping cart?

and can I send a different email for every different product?

When you create an item for sale through e-junkie you can go back and edit through your management area.

You can limit the number of times the product can sell. Also you have the option of creating a "buy now" button or using a shopping cart where you can sell multiple items.

What I also like about it is that I don't have to keep recreating the link when I make a change to the item I'm selling. All I have to do is find the item I'm selling in e-junkie and edit the changes and click save. When someone clicks on my "buy now" button the changes are already made without me having to recreate a new button.

I hope that helped answer your question. If not, just let me know.

      -Brad

Your customer has to be re-directed from PayPal or any other payment processor that you use, to enable your customer to download their purchase. Unless of course you want to purchase a complete payment and delivery system - which is expensive.

You should ensure that a download link is sent to your purchaser's PayPal account too. That can circumvent certain problems, if the original re-direct from PayPal fails.

Most of the solutions on this thread will improve security and make your customers buying experience feel unthreatened and professional.

So it's up to you to make a decision.

Best of Luck and Good Wishes with your decision,
      Jeff.

Yes I'm having many customers complaining that they didnt get the download link...so I have to answer with the download link...which is not nice specially when some customers will first open a paypal dispute before contacting you...

If you have CPANEL in your hosting.... you can do this FREE!

-Create an email address in Cpanel (Orders@yourdomainname.com) or somthing like that...

-Add that email to your paypal account.

-setup "account level filtering" for that email address...
ie: conditional email forwarding such as:
if subject of email contains "You have received a payment"... Then forward email to another email address.... (create a second email account)

    - Setup that second email address, and create a autoresponder (free in cpanel)
And in the autoresponder message, include the message "thank you for ordering... here is the instant download link"

    - Dont forget to create a NEW paypal button with the first email and place it on your site for orders...

BAM!! I just saved you $30 PER MONTH in Aweber/iContact fees.

This is all free, and is included in CPANEL.. (I use Hostgator $7 per month service)

CPANEL is so under-rated... but in fact, It really is my secret weapon.
I suggest everyone look into and research EVERY single feature cpanel has to offer... It's amazing.

    Good Luck

I like your idea but what I don't understand is that how that auto email can be sent to the actual customers email (the one who made the purchase)? If I understand the autoresponder will be sent back to paypal because the email you received is from paypal.

      Please direct me.

      Thanks

Slashy... when a customer orders via a paypal button... the paypal notification comes from THEIR email! real clever on their behalf.

SO you can forward those emails to a second email, which has a cpanel autoresponder.

Trust me it works... I've been using it for years...follow the instructions above.

        =)

There's a couple of ways you can do this, but I think part of your problem...

Yes I'm having many customers complaining that they didnt get the download link...so I have to answer with the download link...which is not nice specially when some customers will first open a paypal dispute before contacting you...
... is the fact that unless you set your PayPal Preferences to use the "auto-return" feature, the Customer is confronted with a bit of a confusing endpoint page.

If the Customer doesn't recognize that the "orange button"; (and they change it sometimes); says, "Return to Merchant's Site" (don't quote me on the verbiage) then they are likely to get confused and think SCAM... due to all of the fraud on the Internet. Not to mention the psychological factors in play as they make a purchase via the Internet of an intangible product/service.(...but, that's a whole different thread).

That being understood; one of the easiest ways would be to utilize a third-party eMail Manager like aWeber or GetResponse with PayPal, [i](it is worth noting that if this is your own product MailChimp is FREE for up to 1000 subscribers and VERY powerful AND gives you deliverability security which you'd have problems getting by setting up a system in your own cPanel); (as well as set your PayPal Preferences to "auto-return" to make the transaction flow that much more smoothly).

    1. Set up your "transaction funnel" in your chosen eMail Manager... I would make this my "Opt-In flow" as well, actually (killing two birds with one stone).

    2. Set up your initial Opt-In form via your eMail Manager... I would word it to say something to the extent of "Thank you for your purchase. In order to better serve you and supply you with FREE updates, we ask that you "REGISTER" your Product/Service via the form, below.."

    2. Set your "Confirmation URL" to a page that says, "Thank you again for your purchase and registration. Your download link will be in your eMail inbox, shortly. Should you have any problems please contact me/us, here"

    3. Set up your "Confirmation Auto-responder" eMail to have your download link inside of it. (A more advanced option is available in either of the above 3 mentioned eMail Manager systems; just search for "PayPal Integration").

    4. When setting up your PayPal button, set the "return URL" to your Opt-In form.

There you go. A little cumbersome to set up, but the set up process is always the most cumbersome. Yet, once you have this set up, then you're running on auto-pilot and will only have to answer Customer queries in the event of an emergency; (which should be minimal).

    HTH
    PLP,
    tecHead

(I guess you can PM me if you need any guidance with setting this all up; but, if you take your time and read the instructions given at PayPal AND your chosen eMail Manager... you should do fine. I strongly recommend MailChimp).

I use SELLFY. They charge 5% for all transactions. What I do is upload a PDF to SELLFY.COM withe link to my password protected download page and I also include the password as well.

SELLFY.COM will deliver that file for me to the customers and all they charge is 5% of transaction fee no matter how large or small it is.

This way is more convenient for me...I dont mind paying the 5%

The easiest and free way to use a wordpress plugin. I am using Easy digital downloads for my site. It automatically handles everything. From payment to Sending link with email. 3rd party sites cost money.
