hello

I have been recommended to use NVU as a website editor.

I had a quick look at it, and it seems a bit daunting to someone new, like me.

Could I please get some feedback on website editors - especially real super simple ones.

Maybe you should be more specific. Are you looking for just an editor? Or are you looking for a WYSIWYG editor?

Dreamweaver is very simple but produces bad code.

You will learn html and css down the road I'm sure.

I learned how to create websites using Ewen Chia's site builder. It's free and has a great CSS editor. There are also several training videos in the help section that are very easy to follow. You can't go wrong. Here's the link:

Hope that helps, and good luck.

You should check out Weebly. It might be exactly what you are looking for.

Bah! Why not GO FOR THE JUGULAR and just learn ROR? (Ruby On Rails) hahaha

Editors are way way too hard (unless you're a geek masochist)

    Back up a step!

What TYPE of web site are you attempting to construct?

    Blog? Just fire up WordPress

Community? Why not mix things up with Jooma 1.5 or Drupal or maybe Xaraya?

Forum? there are some AWESOME ones - Simple Machines Forum, ModPHPBB3 and vBulletin come to mind

Paid Membership Site? Look into Memberspeed from Gislason/Hodgkinson and Co. OR any of the open source CMS environments.

Mini-Site? Check out Fantasos and ContePass

Wiki? Grab a copy of MediaWiki (free!) and have at it

Use an editor to TWEAK and FIX stuff, NOT to build - that is SO 1990's

Personally, I like VIM (open source, NO developer will laugh at you for using it) lol

    welcome home : vim online

If you use WordPress.org it doesn't even need to be a blog type website - Wordpress can be configured to look and work exactly like a normal static website, with or without integrated blog functionality.

However, you are a bit restricted with how you can style individual articles and pages because WP uses the H1 and H2 headers for site and post/page titles.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

Yep both WordPress and Joomla are robust systems. For WordPress you have powerful themes like wpremix, revolution themes, flexibility, etc. and Joomla has a lot of great themes as well from site rocket theme and yoothemes??? (can't remember if that is wordpress or joomla).

Hand coded sites are becoming few and far in between... because of how cheap it is to have some splice a theme in photoshop and then have it coded. Plugins are the future. That is why Joomla and WordPress are so popular.

NVU/Kompozer is actually one of the most simple ones.
I've once made a video on how to do some basic stuff with it, and people felt they became experts in about 15 minutes. So, just give it a go, ask when you don't understand something and you'll learn how to use it in a day or two max.

Myfreewebsitebuilder will install spyware on your computer. Not
recommended. It's the same a Kompozer anyway.

I'm using the Seamonkey browser and it has a version of Kompozer
integrated with it... while I'm having to adapt to it's peculiarities
it does open very fast and is pretty straightforward. I don't use it
for sites, mostly for HTML emails.

XSite Pro is another great website builder for novices, it pretty much automates the SEO portion and is just about as easy to use as Word

    Hi Lazi,

I thought exactly the same as you. I downloaded it and sat there thinking....what now? There are some excellent resources out there and believe me, if I can do it then you can.

    Don't give up,

    Nicola

      Thanks everyone

      JJPMarketing says be more specific

Well here's where I am - my site has been transferred from SBI to Hostgator.

I go into HostGator to edit some of the pages - and I get a huge mass of script in some strange language

Step 1 - I need to edit this
Step 2 - I need to create new pages

NVU seems to be the most popular, but as Steven W Johnson says, it may be simple, but they are still "way too hard". For example I worked through Graham Maddison's video, and while that was helpful, it still left me with a lot of questions. I only went through it once - I'll try a few more times, maybe it'll become clear.

Eg - bonnfbiz says (re NVU) that I need to set CSS for better results - sorry, but I haven't a clue what CSS is - let alone know how to set it.

See, what I'm saying - for me, super simple isn't simple enough, it's got to be super, super simple.

I liked the SBI system - I'd just fill in the blanks, click preview, and the final version shows up on the screen. If I don't like it, I retype it, hit preview again, and do that until I get it just right

I'm looking for that sort of simple.

      Can anyone help?
