CB Vendor Question: Who are my affiliates?

Just curious if there is some way for Clickbank vendors to see from where a sale originates. If not, is there a particular reason why CB would hide the identity of affiliates to vendors?

Only if you've elected to whitelist affiliates (i.e. not to accept affiliates without approving them first).

Otherwise, you can encourage them to contact you (in your Marketplace listing, and/or on your affiliates page, and/or on your Vendor Spotlight page, and can even have an incentivized opt-in on the affiliates page), but you can't insist on knowing their identities.

CickBank has just always offered anonymity to affiliates who want it.

Vendors do have the right to avoid that by whitelisting affiliates, for what it's worth (but almost none actually does).

Personally, I wouldn't promote a product without contacting its vendor (even if only/mostly to request a "review copy"!), but there you have it.

Thanks, Alexa. I wasn't aware I could do that.

Would this tell me, though, where a particular sale originates? My CB email notification (of a sale) gives me the name and email address of the customer, but nothing about where the customer was when he/she clicked through to buy.

I'd love to be able to see which affiliates are responsible for generating my revenue. My Google alerts (set for the keywords in my ebook title) show a lot of strange and spammy-looking websites/directories that have apparently signed on as affiliates. I can't imagine how these sites could ever generate sales for me. Lots of broken English, and most have my product listed on the same page with a hundred other CB products that are totally unrelated to my niche.

S/he was on your sales page, presumably? (Unless you have affiliates linking directly to your order page? They're supposed to have your permission, to do that). And your sales page is hosted on your own site (unless you're already using this very new system they've just brought in where ClickBank will host that for you as well, if you want them to?). So how would ClickBank have access to that information?

Some people may use their own real names as their affiliate nicknames, perhaps - don't know if that might ever help you to identify them? You have their nicknames?

Yes, very difficult to imagine they'll ever produce a sale, isn't it?

Well, that's somewhat true, considering that buyers are making their purchase from my sales page (which resides on my web host) and not the affiliate's website. However, since the affiliate is using a coded link, it seems it would be easy enough for CB to track the origin of the sale, much in the same way I can track sales on my own website using Google Analytics.

Actually you do know which affiliates generate sales. Their nicknames are in the sales report.

You just don't ncessarily which people / websites those nicknames correspond to.

Try goggling the nickname, and/or making a hop link going back to the affiliate (i.e. reverse the merchant/affiliate in the normal hop link), and you might find them.

Ahh...yes. I see that now. Maybe you're right -- I can do some investigating with that nickname and possibly find the source.

              Thanks
