What am I doing wrong?

Hi

I made a website around a particular hobby and then selected 4 items from amazon. I made 4 individual pages of review for each of the item.

Keyword 1 (Item 1)
global monthly searches is 1600
result in quotes is 276,000
result in intitle is 7,650
google pagerank is 1 (the main page on website is ranked 2)
google index is 31

The other pages related to other keywords have similar results.

I have written articles (few), did directory submissions, pinged the pages, submitted to social sites, did press releases so far.

I am getting around 2-3 visits per day with bounce rate 89%.
0 sales so far. it has been 3 months so far.

What am I doing wrong?

I forgot to add that I am using wordpress for my website and have enabled comments for the articles. I get hundreds of comments daily from people promoting their own web pages (SPAM). I am thinking of diasbling the comments option now.

      My Suggestion-
Go for some social bookmarking and build some links at web 2.0 sites.

You are dealing with a lot of competition out there.

This is not working too well for you.

I personally don't recommend you continue to do this. There are many great free and paid ways to market your website to potential buyers and people who are interested in your offer.

I used to write reviews for products through my website. In fact I have now close to 1000 reviews and barely get 1-2 sales per month. That did not work too well for me so I discontinued to do that.

Yea we all go through phases where it is probably best to change things up...As hard as it is to give something up sometimes it is the best option...And I don't mean give up on this project all together but you need to try something else

Without seeing the site it's tough to give exact problems. Generally picking a few keywords and throwing up a few pages does not work anymore these days. You need lots of great content that visitors will sincerely want to read and share. This will get people to like to your content and help you promote it without having to do it all yourself.

I'd also recommend doing some basic SEO stuff like adding your site to Google Webmaster Tools so you can make sure there are no technical problems with your site that might be preventing spiders from crawling it.

I agree - Submit your content to Google using the Webmaster Tools page. Google will fetch your site and add it to their index (unless they feel it is too much of an affiliate site.) They will also give you a number of SEO tips to get better rank.

You are using the term Macro Photography as if everyone knows what that is. Define the term. Use titles such as What is Marco photography? How do I take photographs of very small things? How to photograph flowers? How to do close-up photography? And other search terms the new camera buff might likely use to search. Maybe have a title-content are such as "what equipment do I need to make my macro photos even better?" and then use affiliate photos.

As an amateur photographer, if this were my site, I would create blog posts on how to do macro photography. Then have other pages on the site deal with specific aspects of it from concept to execution. For example, how to setup your camera to do marco photography. Focus on the beginners first and have a photo in each blog post that shows what you are trying to teach.

Photography community, including forums, reviews, and galleries from Photo.net has a lot of great information on marco photography. Also, check out any photography magazine.

Think of your site as a hub for information related to marco photography. The photos on your site could stand out more as is. I'm not drawn to them. Part of that is the first image I see is of a person from about 6 ft. away and it's not in bright vivid color.

You'll get there, just keep at it.

The design of the site is boring and you need to change that. Since it's about macro photography, get a theme or design that showcases some really cool macro photos that grab attention in a nifty, dynamic slider.

Change your font. Get creative with your articles. Use a semi sales page approach with formatting - larger headers and subheads, etc...not big red letters or anything, just make certain points stand out more.

Put your author bio up so people can see this is something you really DO...it's your hobby, so you know what the hell you are talking about and they should listen to you. Build your authority.

Then join some FB groups related to this or create your own group and invite people to join.

Since this is your thing, you need to expand your reach and use more creative ways to captivate and promote.

    Hi...

When you looked up search demand for your keyword phrases, did you make sure that the settings were adjusted to "exact" match? Many of the keyword research tools default to the broad match option, which would severely inflate what your true search demand is.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Not building a list.
Not doing anything to get (targeted) traffic.

The things you've done so far won't really bring you much traffic. Keyword volumes mean nothing unless you are ranking high in Google. Are you?

Writing reviews and posting on your site doesn't generate traffic neither does pinging the pages, adding to directories or social bookmarking sites.

Press releases can bring traffic but in your case didn't.

You need to be capturing the visitors to your sites email address to keep in contact and market to them.

You also need to be finding out where your target audience is, i.e. forums, blogs, social media sites, video sites, Q&A, magazines, newsletters and wherever else and get your content / advertisements in front of them in the form of guest posts, blog comments, videos, article syndication, forum sigs, banner ads and whatever else you can think of.

The high bounce rate shows that people landing on your site don't see what they expect or want to see. The ugly design isn't helping either.

Did the pages show up in the 1st page of results for the keywords you chose?

If not then that is your problem. You either picked keywords with too much competition, or did not drive enough backlinks. Also, you may not have waited long enough for Google to give those pages any page rank.

No the pages do not currently show on the 1st pages of the results. I also feel that the competition pages are quite old and strong websites.

Stop building websites : ) That has proven to be the least stable business model unless you have some very good outsourcers, or know what you are doing. There is an easier softer way, and you don't have to build sites and fill them with fluff content.
Set-up a solid foundation based on quality products and market to a list of buyers.
Way easier = ) From what I saw on your site. I would not stay either. There is no depth to the site. It just kinda seems to be one of those sites. You are trying to appeal to people who dig pictures and you have what? One pic of a fly.

Try looking at your site this way. What would your market actually want to see? Not what is the least amount of work I could do to make money,

Along with doing reviews, why don't you include tips and tricks kind of articles too? It would help build credibility, and your visitors will start to trust your expertise which would then (hopefully) lead them to buy from your recommendation.
Another tip: YouTube videos....if you are not shy showing your face, do tutorials for people interested in photography. Great way to direct traffic to your website, build a loyal fan base, and you can even earn by becoming a YouTube partner.

Also, as mentioned above put an opt in form and start building a list.

There doesn't seem to be much "useful" content on your site.

If I was a visitor who was interested in photography, I certainly wouldn't buy from your site as you've given no reason to trust you.

This has nothing to do with how your site looks or reviews etc. I think this is your problem:

One thing you might want to check on your Wordpress site it that it is enabled to be indexed by the search engines. That little of traffic tells me you may have that particular feature turned off.

If you go to your Wordpress back office and go to settings->Reading there is a box that can be checked or unchecked that says "Search Engine Visibility." Then you have the choice to check the box that says "discourage search engines from indexing this site." If that box is checked, then that's one reason you have such low traffic. That box needs to be unchecked.

Hopefully that helps. Even if you are in a real competitive market, you shouldn't just have 2-3 visits per day, especially with a Wordpress platform.

The other thing you can do is download the "All in One SEO" plugin. (It's free) and set up your SEO. Hopefully this helps! Good luck!

Also try to do the KW research through Market samurai ... you can find a fiverr gig for that ....

If it was so simple to make money online, everyone would be rich.

You have to improve your content and use a bigger font because it’s hard to read what you wrote, and your English is poor.

You should also do around one thousand things to drive traffic to your blog and to convert your visitors into buyers.

Change the dark background color to lighter one. What`s your purpose with this website? As i see some pictures on right side with text "click on images to buy" - it`s useless (nobody will click on these). The website is useless if you want to earn money with it. The theme isn`t user friendly - visitors are coming to site and the first thing they see is the big image, they even don`t want to scroll down for more info plus it`s hard to navigate with this theme. You should also have custom logo. There are so many mistakes so it`s even hard to explain all the things which are missing or done wrong.

    Cheers

you choose to small of a niche, the answer really is as simple as that.

I personally won't even enter a niche unless there are millions of searches and hundreds of thousands of competitors..

People will argue saturation, or to much competition, but when you know the proper ways to market then this actually works to your advantage.

That's the main reason my business does up to 35k a month. Because I know how to market in large competitive niches, and that what I look for before I enter it.

You couldn't possibly expect to make decent money with only 1600 people searching a month. My main niche gets over 3 million searches per month, now there is something worth going into

The best part is I generate this income without having a single page ranking in the search engines.

The design and content aspect of your website is still terrible.

What is going on at the top of your page? That HUGE link bar that takes up half the page is horrible.

      Still no prominent opt in.

      Still very average content.

Horrible colours and looks basic and cheap.
