First of all you need to concentrate.
Don't let information overload confuse you.
You need to find what niche / business model is of more interest to you, when you identify your interest, then work on it, concentrate on it..

You mention various marketing channels/methods but not what you're selling. And what are your goals? $10 per day? $100? More?

Personally. I'd always start by creating a product or service that's needed or wanted by real, live human beings, not intangible electrons and has enough of a market to reach my specific (not open-ended) goals.

Standard business principles apply, even when your selling and marketing medium is online.

It starts as a numbers game (financial goal setting) then follows through to a number-based traffic, sales, conversion and ongoing monitoring process.

Banish guesswork. Make a goal-based plan and get to work on all the elements to make it happen. Get them on paper and work through what you wrote or drew. Ignore all other intrusive additions or diversions until you have worked through your plan from start to finish.

Finally, there is no guarantee of success so if that's what you're looking for, accept it will never come. So put that to the back of your mind and learn to live with its nagging little voice which never, ever goes away but can become your sanity-checking friend.

This is how I got started online. I just wanted to see my name on the App Store initially and the money was a by-product. It's a good sense of accomplishment.

1. Work out your financial goals.
2. Decide on a niche/product.
3. Is there a sufficient market to reach your goals?
4. Create product or select affiliate products.
5. Put up site.
6. Drive traffic.
7. Monitor conversions.
8. Tweak site for better conversions.
9. Go back to 6.

That's all you need.

There are no "secrets" out there just waiting for you to find them and there are no guarantees of success.

I think the first step is in the mindset. Don't see internet marketing as endless money that can be easily accessed via a thousand different 'methods'. Just like a normal business, it requires hard work and focus.

My suggestion would be to start in affiliate marketing so you don't have to worry about creating your own product. Make sure that whatever you are promoting/selling is actually of good value too.

I would also suggest getting into email marketing. A highly productive email list can work perfectly with affiliate marketing and can bring in some serious cash, if you are willing to work hard enough.

No one is going to be able to give you the perfect answer. There are many ways to generate stable and long-term income, but what would work with you is not possible for us Warriors that doesn't know your personality, work ethic, time and resources available, etc.

There is no one model or method that works best for everyone.

If you are suffering from information overload, stop reading. Get a blank piece of paper and start brainstorming. Start with areas that you have experience in, have a passion form have held a job in.

Chances are that it is not specific methods that are inadequate, but your discipline. Every newbie I have ever talked to who couldn't seem to "make it" was due to the fact that they were not working hard enough, or they were quitting too soon.

This isn't a personal attack on you. More a symptom of all the hypey salespages that make it seem so easy to earn money online.

Pick up method and commit to it for 6 months to a year.

Don't buy into the whole "information overload" thing. At the end of the day its only an excuse for procrastination. And the only cure for procrastination is simple: take action.

So you want to be successful online? Stop asking "what should I do?", make a game plan, and take massive action.

Neil gave you a VERY actionable plan above. The only thing I would add is to focus on building your lists early and often. Read the plan he gave you, put it to action, and you will see results.

While I absolutely agree, I deliberately missed out all marketing strategy from my list to show how simple the process can be. Building a list is important and just one of many things you can build in as you go along, if you so choose.

Thanks again for everyones input, just a little history on myself. Firstly I understand only to well there is no easy way or magic bullet, I have built some sites before ( obviously not well enough) I originally started with article marketing and saw some sales ( but mostly what I read now is article marketing is dead). I made Facebook fan pages selling amazon products and had some success again ( my best fan page has 15000 likes and is still active now)So I really do understand about focus and putting in the work, because even though I only had moderate success with the above methods I spent many hours behind the computer, to do what Ive done. I probably should have focused all that effort into just one method.I also have a day job which at times takes me away from home for up to eight months a year working 12/14 hours a day, so coming back to my accommidation and spending hours on the computer just can't happen ( have to sleep some time). I guess its like starting over each time I come home, its like relearning again as the internet changes fast, so to some up I'm not after an easy fix I fully understand the work involved, I was just after some direction from experienced, successful marketers. Lol, that's right govomg, there's no magic button. You can't create a site in 10 minutes and make 154,673,567,781.34 as the charlatans (which have nothing to do with gurus) say.

I'd advice that you create a mini site. That is, a site with 10-15 articles and use an affiliate offer to make cash. Then, you can create more or expand one of those mini sites to make it an authority site.

Creating your product and sales page can take you some good time and there's the risk that it won't be good since you aren't very experienced yet. Though, I'd advice that you definitely create one after some time.

If you know how to create videos, you can also use affiliate offers in your videos. As long as you upload the videos to youtube, they will be easier to rank than articles.

Sounds all too familiar...you might want to stop buying for now, this will only confuse you more. Internet marketing is like any other venture that involves learning...ie go to college and a year or more you come out with a diploma or certificate but you had to go through the learning process...internet marketing is no different. Look up the 10 top internet marketer. Check out their websites you will find great information and often free courses if you check them out separately on there blogs for example you will find Jeremy Schoemaker at the top of the list go to his website and he is currently offering a free course just for newbies...these are the top marketers they got there because they know what they are doing. The quality information you will find through these guys is very interesting.

Well, I was in the affiliate marketing business. Made some money. Now, I have moved on to my own product and blog. I also engage in solo ads in fitness niche now. I will say that all are profitable, but it takes time and tons of effort.

govomg, I am admittedly a bit of a contrarian, so just ignore this if you believe it doesn't apply -- but if I were in your shoes, I would be looking for a day job that does not take you away for 8 months at a time working 12 to 14 hours a day ... if that is a possibility.

I'm not trying to discourage you, and it's just my own experience, but I have serious doubts how successful you can be in that kind of situation. I have found that I have had to work this business consistently and persistently, on an almost daily basis and year round, and I have found that to be true in my past business efforts as well.

(But then, I'm sure I'm not the quickest study around ...)
