List building -people not confirming link

Hi
I set up a new squeeze page last week and bought one solo ad to test it out
I am really happy with the conversion rate of about 40%

That is 40% put in their email but unfortunately alot of people like over 1/2 arent confirming the link and downloading the ebook I am giving a way (and therefore not seeing the upsell)

The vast majority of the emails are yahoo, gmail and hotmail which I have tested before sending traffic

Anyone any ideas how to fix this

Single opt in and direct to the OTO when they enter their email address.

Sounds like fairly standard solo ad behavior. You need to remember these solo ads lists are being blasted with offers left right and center and so they are not going to be putting in their real email address. Solo ads don't always bring you the best quality leads because they are being pimped out to so many people.

I agree with both Rockinglastsforever and Will....

I would most definitely go single opt-in and directly send them to the OTO. The Reason being is so you can try and recoup some of your investment back for the Solo Ad that you sent.

Also have a nice follow up in place to increase conversions for your front end offer if they do not purchase..

      Hope this helps,

I thought in order to send out emails to people after they optin they had to be double optins
I am thinking of EU law

The easy fix is to not give them access to the download until after they've confirmed their subscription.

This weeds out all the people who give fake email addresses, and will give you a better quality list. Here's a sample of the sort of page I'm describing -

What is the page you are redirecting to?

I have a video page where I explain about the double opt-in process, and tell people that if they want the report they have to confirm. It also gives me a chance to introduce myself to the new subscriber and show them I'm a real person rather than some faceless guru who just wants to sell them stuff.

A smaller number of people who actually want to be on your list is better than a large number. If you're concerned about the quality of the leads being generated from the solo advert it would be worth leaving the data about how a large number of the opt-ins were not valid enough to confirm.

In my mind the solo advert niche is about to self implode due to greed, as too many people are selling to the same limited pool of leads.

I advice you to use single opt-in for your FREE offers (followed by OTO) and double opt-in for your own paid offers.

Single Opt-in. No its not against the law. You need to have an unsubscribe link on every email you send (this is standard for most email delivery programs).

I did a lot of research and tests on single opt-in versus double opt-in. Single opt-in won by a huge margin and the list was responsive. A lot of people will tell you its a junk list. Its not - especially if you have an email delivery program that will scrub your list each time it sends out an mail. It will get rid of the crap but keep the people who never see the double opt-in email.
