Offered £1500 for domain name. Real or not?

Hi guys,

Am a newbie here, just want to know if this person is taking a mick or not. I have been offered £1500 for a domain name I have for sale. But the person went on to ask if its my first time, and he is gonna help me with the sale and transfer process.

I just need your advice based on your experiences.

Thanks

The ONLY way's to sell a domain of this value is via escrow (escrow.com) or state that you'll immediately point the domain to whatever host he wants but you'll not move the domain itself to the buyer for 60 days.
If they try to get you to move the domain to them immediately via paypal - don't. They'll probably do a chargeback after you move the domain to them!
Oh and if they want an 'independant' valuation - don't. It's a scam.

    Good luck.

This sums it up, but since they offered a number I wouldnt think its the valuation scam. Just be careful.

If he makes you an offer on Sedo.com or you go through Escrow.com the offer is for sure legit.
If he start to ask for an appraisal it's for sure a scam. In any case just copy and paste the email you've received in Google and you can see if it's a standard scam letter.

If someone is really interesting in paying you $1500 for your domain, you don't need a total freaking stranger to help you with the sale and transfer. Someone who popped up out of the blue.

If they ask for an appraisal, run. It would be the appraisal scam where they suggest and insist on the appraisal being done at a certain site (which they happen to own). You'd never hear from them again after you pay for the appraisal.

If it's not the appraisal scam, it still smells bad to me. Tell him that you are very experienced domain seller and thanks anyway, but you can handle the sale and transfer yourself.

Then if you need to, ask questions here where people without an agenda will advise you.

Right just sent him an email to pay me through Escrow.com and am gonna handle the sale/transfer, waiting for reply, but it seems likely to be the appraisal scam 'cos I googled the email address

Thanks guys for taking out time to respond

I believe you said you have it listed on Sedo. If he wants the domain, tell him to make the offer through Sedo. Sedo handles it the same as escrow and protects both the buyer and the seller. Don't do this without Sedo or escrow.com, but I'd make him offer via Sedo.

I receive scam emails offering to buy domains in my portfolio. If the domain is parked at Sedo, ask the potential buyer to purchase via Sedo. I've successfully completed transactions with Sedo. They have excellent Customer Service.

If the buyer asked you for a domain appraisal before he/she can pay you. Then stay away from him/her. They don't want to buy your domain name, but scam you into an appraisal.

I got this reply guys obviously the appraisal scam:

"Before we proceed let me ask for one little thing:
First of all, we need a valuation (appraisal of your domain made by independent experts). It will show me you are a legitimate seller and the price of your domain is reasonale based on the last market trends. Please don't worry, it will take only 1-2 minutes to get this valuation.

I prefer appraisal service that also verifies possible trademark infringements. It's important for me to know that your domain has no problems with trademarks. It won't be a problem for you since some good appraisers offer this option (trademark infringement verification) as a free bonus to the appraisal service.

To avoid mistakes and wasting money on useless services I asked in the forum about reliable valuation/TM verification services.

    Please read this information:

    xxxxxlink

    The process is very easy:

    1. Go to the appraisal site and order the valuation with the TM verification. After several hours you will get the results.

    2. Please resend these results via email and we'll proceed with the deal.

If the evaluation comes higher you can change your asking price. After you send me the professional evaluation via email (usually it takes one day to get the results) we'll be doing business"

    thanks guys

Quite simple....Have them pay first and see if it happens...if so, release the domain..if not, move on.
