Membership site: WordPress vs vBulletin

Something I've been thinking about today and I'd like to get the forums input on....

I'm investigating membership sites but I'm trying to see why I need WordPress at all and just have vBulletin (4.2) do it all.

vBulletin will obviously do the forums part but it also has an inbuilt CMS so I could surely deliver any training/courses through that.

What are the benefits to using both WordPress and vBulletin rather than just vB on it's own?

Wordpress you can get a variety of plugins, softwares which can be taylor made to your specific membership needs. Some are great for huge sized content (video) where as some work simply for dripping articles every month.

    My tips:
-The content can be some 'step by step' monthly action methods, which are taken from the clickbank Ebook in GOAL 1, just convert it to a step by step audio/video format, and release it monthly as 'modules'
-Search the variety of membership softwares out there, each have pros and cons.

    Here are some membership softwares:

    Membership Manager Supreme
    Membership software - aMember Pro
Membership Site Software - Easy Member Pro

Wordpress membership plugins are easy to use, and have the drip feed content:

    Here is some:

    Wordpress membership softwares:

    s2Member® | A powerful (free) membership plugin for WordPress®
WP-Member | Best WordPress Membership Plugin with PayPal, Google Checkout
Membership Site Plugin - Wordpress Membership Plugin - MemberWing
WishList Member | Membership Site Software

    • I should have stated that I'll be using DAP for the membership handling but you did raise something I'd momentarily forgotten : might not be able to do dripping with DAP handling vB.

I'm very experienced with WordPress but investigating all options

You can have both. There's a plugin to integrate them both seamlessly. But if you do that the theme won't look the same, if that matters to you. That's what I would use if I were you. The blog component of vbulletin simply does not look as nice as the ones you can build with Wordpress, and I think that the general look of a blog is important to get conversions.

Wordpress just gives you a lot more options in terms of themes and plugins for your members site. I have a members site where I use Wordpress and vbulletin integrated with DAP and it works flawlessly.

      Hi Will, thanks for that.

So I assume you use WP to deliver your training and vB for the forums end of it, support etc? What theme do you use on WP? Optimize Press?

All in all Wordpress is easier to customise and maintain.

You have other options such as Amember which where designed to be membership sites.

vBulletin is getting worse and worse IMO. Wordpress is a much better choice.

Would you have suggestions for other forum software that can be controlled at a sub forum level like DAP can do with vB (through user groups I believe)? IE. Can aMember do similar with other forum software?

aMember can be integrated with XenForo (recommended! we use it on our website), phpBB, and Invision Power Board and vBulletin. These options are most popular for forum websites this year.

Thanks - I emailed your support earlier asking about the level of integration between aMember and xenForo.
