For owners of "Successful Membership" sites

Have you found that the $1 get access and then bill them 7 days or 14 days later the best method for membership sites?

Or maybe offering tiered pricing ( full payment, monthly or weekly )?

Or has another method worked well from a pricing point of view?

Interested in knowing what you have found has worked for you to REMOVE peoples objections/hesitations to go for it?

Just offer an unconditional no questions asked 30 day guarantee. Basically, whenever they want to cancel you'll refund their last payment. Then stick to it and make sure it's and easy and quick process.

Have a free product that you would have in your membership site. Let people know there are many more things like that and better inside the membership site. Maybe even if it's a say 7 module product only release 3 free.

Just a couple ideas to remove objections and doubts.

  • One thing I can say from extensive testing over the years is that $1 trials have sold at almost the same conversion rate as free trials. I always had predetermined in my head that free trials would of course bring in more customers, however flipping back and forth between free and $1 trials always provided similar results. One theory I have is that people are very skeptical of "Free" and even paying $1 makes more sense to them than nothing.

Cheap trials seem like a great way to get people in and of course you always get the "forgot to cancel" members that will rebill for months and not chargeback or refund because they just don't care .

Ok so you have tested it.

Do you always go with $1 entry

or on some membership sites just go direct for the monthly payment? have you tested that?

They are both good in my opinion.. You could get a lot of members from promoting the free membership then up-sell the paid ones.. With the $1 7day trial, if your content is good enough they continue to be members..

No we don't always do $1 trials. Right now we are actually testing the opposite on a couple of sites, a 29.95 upfront monthly charge and lower 9.95 monthly rebill. Thought process is better upfront payout to affiliates and the idea that people will remain members for a long time at the low monthly cost. Just finishing up tweaks and I don't have data yet on retentions.
