The launch of a new product

Hi, I was wondering why do people "launch" new products? That is, start promoting it and getting opt-ins before it's online.

Why not just start promoting the product/site once it's online?

Where is the value of a launch?

the value of a launch is to get some "hype" going. if you get some good marketers on board who are willing to send an email to their list, you most probably get sales in from the beginning. it is much easier to work from there because you already made some money back.

a good reason for doing this promo is to see if people are actually interested in the product it is a quick test if enough people show interest in your future product then you can go and make your new product and know how many you may expect to sell and whether or not it is worth it its a neat trick a way of finding out what your list/wants and also they may have an affiliate/jv promo going so it gives them time to get more affiliates promoting there product for them product

As Dan states. Once you get a list of potentially interested people you can then ask them questions as to what they want in the product and design/make it to meet your potential customers needs, not what you think their needs should be!

It's all about creating a buzz for your product. People like anticipation and being told they can't have something they want yet. It makes them more eager and excited to buy it.

Think of movies, you always see trailers and PR for months before they come out. Why would this be?

The advantages of a launch are:

    1. You set a deadline for yourself and your marketing partners to rally around, if you don't have this date, many people delay getting their product out, only get a trickle of partner interest, and limp out of the gate

    2. You are forced to think "Marketing" since that is what a launch is all about. Without a launch people tend to ramp up their marketing in stages leaving essential pieces out (like getting affiliates, loading them with tools, improving your sales funnel, etc...)

    3. It's MUCH more effective marketing to a "warm" prospect than a cold one. Launches are all about attracting attention and then warming up your prospects quickly before you make your pitch - conversions end up much higher.

    4. If you are just starting, the traffic surge, opt-in benefit and notoriety of a launch can cut your time to success in a market by months (even years)

    5. Quickly make yourself a "player" in partner circles...this means that you get to share inside info on promotions, help each other build lists, mastermind together, etc...

    6. A launch gives you momentum...there is nothing more powerful in business than inertia/momentum. When you have momentum opportunities come to you instead of you having to continually chase them down.

    7. Those who do not buy from your launch, but join your list offer a terrific opportunity for as future customers, so the immediate profit from launches is great but so is the long-term impact of building a large list

It's called presell. Especially for higher priced products you can't just sell people straight up that they need your product. Your conversions will be MUCH higher if the person understands they have a problem, you have given them free content to help solve that problem, and then you make an offer for your paid solution that will make solving this problem much easier/faster
