Article directories - does this make any money?

I am looking into different ways to make money online through adsense or any ad network that doesn't require me to write my own content. I will do manual approvals for each article to ensure quality.

I know some article directories are charging per submission but not a good idea when the site is brand new.

I am aware there are more profitable ways like affiliate marketing etc but I am looking at all possible options. So I am doing a research if starting or building an article directory type of website is another profitable way to make money online.

I want to know if any of you warriors have started this kind of business currently or in the past. How profitable is it? or not profitable?


How easy or difficult in building this kind of site?

    you could offer premium memberships and include adsense on such a site. i´m just wondering how you would grow such a site?
    i mean the reason to submit articles are that you get a high quality link to your website from high ranked domain... so it would take you some time and effort.
    also, before members would be willing to pay it would also take a lot of time.
    not sure if that is what you want to do?

    It have been long time since I abandoned my article directory, much before the time of Google and Panda update.

    Generally it is easy to build article directory website, but keeping it away from spam is very difficult tast. After that you need to spend a lot of time on reviewing new articles and my established article directory used to get more than 200 new articles a day. I would say that income was not bad, but everything turned very time consuming. I doubt that after Google Panda and Penguin updates article directory will be a good business.

    what do you mean you want to create an article directories site and sell the articles?
    hire a bunch of writers build a website and start selling im sure some people are doing it but there are plenty of free or plr articles out there most people would be better of having there own writer which i do as well the money is in the list start building a list or maybe have a bunch of full time writers and start creating and selling plr ebooks etc
