Dang, SocialClerks was sold on Flippa

This is one service I use from time to time. I was surprised just now it was sold on flippa for a bit over 14k.

We've had this happen to us a couple of times. (Found out a site/service we use regularly was up for sale and didn't know about it)

Great suggestion, customers who use the site and appreciate its value will actually drive the bidding price higher for the site.

I wouldn't recommend trying to sell a business to your customers. Doing this has a lot of risks.

Firstly, your customers would have a completely open book on everything you do (profit margins etc.).

Secondly, you will increase the risk to a buyer of customers leaving when the business is sold. Any serious investor won't want to touch a small business when all of the customers know the business is for sale.

With some businesses it might make sense to try sell to your customers (e.g. if it's a very personal business and everyone knows the owners), but it really needs to be looked at on a case by case basis.

Great points, Thomas. The specific situations I was mentioning would have been perfectly acceptable as they were small niche communities...but your points ring true in other instances.

I've purchased several sites from Flippa, and almost every site that I've purchased has had an ad on their website indicating that the site is for sale on flippa. I think that a lot of people are so tuned to ignoring ads that they don't even see it.

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought that established sites in this "niche" would be generating higher revenue than the current average of $1,300 per month.

It completely depends on the business model with social media. The problem is that when you offer something for free and give the option to buy, most people don't take you up on the option. It's much cheaper to just get a bot to automatically earn you points on social media exchange websites than actually buy points directly from the website itself.

SocialClerks is useful unless you are an upgraded member.
I joined socialclerks a few weeks ago and none of my points have been used up.

I recall, it was mentioned somewhere during the purchase they did have a notice on the top header to notify people it was on sale. I could be wrong, didn't verify it.

The person who bought it hasn't updated the site as yet because the "SocialClerks is for sale, Bid Now!" notice is still there in the header of the site
