What Are My Options Besides Hiring a Mentor?

Hello everyone!

I'm starting at IM and some people suggested that hiring a mentor would be a great idea. I agree. But I don't have that kind of money to invest. I'm starting with 2k. So that would get me what? 2 hours of a good mentor... So I'm just looking at other options here.

1) Is a partnership possible?
I'm a 10+ years Web programmer. I've seen youtube videos of IM showing their "recipe" for building sites. It would be easy for me to automate some of those tasks or give advice on what language to use for X, where to seek a good programmer, etc. Is it possible to partner with a successful IM this way?

2) What are my other options?

You can try the JV section and consider JVing with another marketer where you provide the programing skill and they provide the product/and marketing, so you are leveraging each others skills, something along them lines.

    2) What are my other options?
You can purchase a successful marketers blueprint/guide which shows you how to make money online, but there are many guides out there.

    Well, 1st off welcome.

    Here's what I would say:

    1. Beware the shiny, shiny (every new big bright million dollar overnight idea).

    2. Choose your path wisely. Don't jump into things to fast or you'll find yourself just jumping to the next thing and this could become a habit.

    3. If you're a good programer then team up with a good marketer who has a great track record. You create and service the product and he/she does the selling and customer service.
You would split that type of partnership 50/50. Be careful who you partner with and always produce quality products.

    4. Build a list. Always build a list!

    I hope that helps,

My best advice to you (given what you have told us) would be to approach a marketer with a product idea that you can create and partner up with them. They do the marketing side of things and have the JV connections and you handle the creation of the product. I've done several deals this way and it makes perfect sense for both involved.

It's also an easier way for you to get your name out there by piggy backing on someone who is already very well known in the niche.

It's good that you have some money to start with. We all have A LOT of choices, which creates so much overwhelm and confusion. But you are kind of putting the cart before the horse.

I have spent thousands of dollars for IM courses over the years and thousands more dollars for coaching (12.5K to be exact). What you need will depend on your level of skill and knowledge (as well as needs and preferences). But generally speaking, if you're new, your best bet is to buy one or two comprehensive IM courses and THEN invest in coaching if you feel you need it.

ANYONE can get IM basics from a couple of self-study courses. And they abound on the Internet. Two I can think of off the top of my head right now are Ali Brown's Elevate program (a one-year online program at ElevateBizTraining.com) and Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula (also an online program at ProductLaunchFormula.com).

Ali is offering a free 4-hour online ProfitMap Workshop this coming Wednesday which you can see here: http://www.alibrown.com/profitmapworkshop.html

She's doing it to promote her Elevate program, so you can get a feel for her and what she offers.

You don't need to have chosen a niche before investing in a program such as this and I'd recommend investing in at least ONE program such as these. It will save you a lot of time, expense and grief in the long run.

Once you have the basics down, you may decide to invest in a coach. I can tell you from experience, you'll get a LOT MORE out of the coaching if you've done your homework and have a basic foundation in place.

As you noted, coaching is sold either in group format and/or via 1-on-1. And $2K won't get you much (if any) 1-on-1 coaching. A good home study course is the equivalent of dozens of hours of 1-on-1 coaching. And if you're a newbie, you need the home study course more than anything else right now. Buying expensive coaching when you're new is wasting your time and money -- and the coach's time.

      But...

Before you spend a penny, you need to:

      1. Choose a niche.
      2. Choose a target market.
      3. Choose a business model.

Do you even know these three critical things? What niche do you want to operate in? Who will buy your stuff (target market)? What's your business model? (In other words, do you want to offer your own products or services or do you want to be an affiliate for other people's products and services?)

Once you know these three things, you can research the niche further and see what products and services are being offered. What problems do they solve or desires do they fill? Is there a gap there that you could fill with your own products or services? Or are there already great products and services in the market that you could be an affiliate for? Who are the players in the niche? How can you network with them and get know by them?

Once you know these things, you can start building your own list and then offering them good info (content) and solutions (products and services for sale).

Once you know these things, if you still need help, you can buy all of the info you'll ever need on how to market online. But all of the info in the world won't help you if you haven't chosen a niche, target market and business model. I always recommend buying at least one comprehensive IM course.

So step back, take a deep breath, do some research and make some decisions.

      Hope that helps!

    Welcome to IM world!

Actually, it doesn't need to e a mentor. But it would be very helpful if all people who are still starting out have someone to whom they can consult to or ask questions to. For me, the most difficult part in starting IM business is the part when you have everything in mind but you just can't put things into place and make it work.

Right now I'm offering my help because I want to help as many people as I can because I know how much time and money people waste unnecessarily. I have it in my signature here, if you need. I just thought if maybe I could help while I still can offer it for free.

    Cheers,
    eLena
