Does anyone know of a great and inexpensive article writing service?
I hired a few writers in the last few months but the articles are so
badly written I simply can't use them on my website.
All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Another point to mention is that the criteria you set regarding YOUR opinion on what is "ok quality" and "the right service", may differ wildly from what others think. And more importantly from what the article writer you employ thinks.

Spending yet more money for a "test package" is completely the wrong way to go. You shouldn't have to outlay a dime simply to ascertain a writer's competence. I'm sure you'll get enough offers from potential employees from this thread alone. I suggest you discuss with them the points I made in an earlier post of mine in this thread, and I hope you're able to move on with what is evidently a major stumbling block to you personally in your IM venture(s).

If I can offer you any further advice please feel free to ask.

Great AND inexpensive don't go together.

Good writers charge more because they are good. Bad writers charge less because they are bad, and can't get work otherwise. And before anyone chimes in with the old nutmeg that some decent writers are inexpensive when setting out simply to establish a name for themselves, well that doesn't wash.

Any half decent writer - even at the outset of their career - will quickly become recognised. They become recognised because of quality, which is an attribute that will always shine through. As such they don't need
to offer their work at ridiculously low prices as word of mouth is a very potent weapon within the writing fraternity, and a good writer will never be short of assignments and a lengthy work schedule.

I sympathise with you in that you've had your fingers burnt a few times but there are a few factors to take into consideration when considering hiring an article writer for the first time. These factors should ensure you're getting someone who won't let you down on standards.

    1. Always ask for samples of previous work.

    2. Always request testimonials, if available.

    3. If considering using a writer from a forum such as this, check the standard of writing in their posts.

    4. For the first assignment offer a couple of stage payments so you can ascertain the quality of their work "as you go".

    5. Request a "mini-sample" on the topic you require of perhaps 100-200 words.

Good luck. And open your wallet a little or no-one decent will comply with the above points for peanuts.

I have to agree with the others that are advising that you won't get quality without a corresponding price.

The best investment you can make before investing your money is doing your due diligence as Horny Devil laid out for you above.

There are many sites where you can get great writers. However, if you are looking for inexpensive ones, you are going to have a hard time with that because reputable writers don't charge inexpensive prices. Before you hire one, you should ask for a sample and how it went with their previous clients and what level of writing skills they have. Do your research.

There are many quality article writing services available. If an article writing service doesn't have any samples displayed on their sales page, then you should ask for them. Most article writers will have samples to show you, and you will be able to determine whether the quality of the articles meets your requirements.

No offense, but if you pay low prices, then odds are that you'll get low quality.

And as others say, it's quite easy to judge the difference between good and bad writers.

Look at past samples and testimonials and weed them out.

Of course, good writers aren't usually "inexpensive" but there are a few gems out there, if you look hard enough

If you want a guarantee that you will get high quality work from someone with enough experience to handle your requests and meet deadlines, it will cost money. If you use an inexpensive service you could luck out and get great work but luck has to be on your side. I do realize, however, that even getting an experienced or costly writer isn't a guarantee that they will give you the results that you want. If it doesn't seem to matter what you do or who you hire, consider that the problem could be in how you describe the project to the writer.

With that being said, I have three services I've written for in the past, mainly when I was first starting out.

    Exquisite Writing (exquisitewriting.com)
    The Content Authority
    Textbroker

All three have treated me well as a writer. Happy Writers = Good Work. There are checks and balances in place at all of these which will hopefully help you get the quality you want. TCA and TB have tier structures and you can always hire out the upper tiers to give you a chance of getting better quality work.

Although the term "inexpensive" is subjective, I am going to assume that you mean $4-$5 articles.
If that's the case then here is what you need to know: inexpensive or great- you gotta pick one.

I don't know what is the inexpensive price for you, but for a great article, I'd pay $35; it's cheap for me.

The whole notion of marketing with cheap articles is wrong. You may get some traffic to a site if you shove up a whole pile of rubbish articles, but you won't sell much. Readers can see that the quality is awful and will think that the company behind the article is low quality, too.

I'd suggest either hiring a good copywriter or reading as much as you can from decent books on writing and doing it yourself. The best books I've seen include:

Essential English for Journalists, Editors and Writers by Sir Harold Evans (former Editor of The Sunday Times)
How to Write Sales Letters that Sell by Drayton Bird
Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss
The Copywriting Sourcebook by Andy Maslan
Tested Sentences That Sell by Elmer Wheeler

The books on copywriting are useful whether or not the copy you're composing is selling, because they help you to convince and communicate.

The problem is you're looking for quality for a cheap price. The best writers I've worked with all charge at least $0.03 per word. Most charge more than that. You're better off spending more for high quality content than playing the game with lower prices and lower quality writers.

Have you tried re-formatting articles that are in the public domain? Anything before 1923 is free to use. After that up to 1965 or so is available provided that it hasn't been renewed. A lot of the older articles were better written than the ones nowadays. You can certainly re-purpose it to suit your needs and it's already written!

It's not wholly accurate to suggest great and inexpensive are always mutually exclusive concepts in the article-writing world.

      However in order to find a great and inexpensive writer we would first need to determine how you define inexpensive;

      Is "inexpensive" $5 or less?
Is "inexpensive" defined by you, as only relating to the original cost of the article?

      Or

Is "inexpensive" paying a little more for better content and thus providing your site visitors with a better information service and reaping the long-term benefits of that?

Whatever your strategy I would say this, you CAN find great and inexpensive writers but you will either need to be lucky, or spend a significant amount of time wading through garbage. It's your call.

Some of the article-writing sites, like iWriter for example, require new writers to write a certain number of articles before they can be graded as an elite, premium or standard writer. You might be lucky enough to stumble across a talented writer who is just starting the process of building up his/her reputation at one of these sites - however, it's a long shot!

You could instead just save yourself some time, pay a little more, and get quality content that may initially require a litte more investment on your part. Depending on what kind of site you have and how far-sighted your IM strategy is, this could prove to be a more profitable solution in the long run. Too many people focus on short-term cost rather than long-term factors like reputation and credibility, but it's entirely up to you what path to choose.

    YOURSELF.

Plus it's free, and you get to make sure that it looks exactly the way you want it to look, and have the quality that you want it to have. It's not hard to write content yourself. Start with 1, 250 word article per day, then scale it up to 1, 500 word article per day. The longer the better.

I used a writing service from warriors for hire (shall remain un-named) and although they were fast and fairly inexpensive, I couldnt use the article as is....it needed some work. For me though, it was still worth it because they did all the research and wrote the article. It took me 20 minutes for fix it up and make it good enough to use on my site.

So for me, even though I have to do work on the article, it is still worth it.

If you need to get articles about verity of topics, then you should think of iwriter kind of service where we have pool of people. But if you need to get articles on selected topics (your niche) then you can think of hiring some contractors after testing them properly so over the period they get better and better, But never depend on just one. Its a risk.

My best writer charges $2.50 per 100 words but it depends again what you consider to be expensive. Because from personal experience of years dealing with writers anything below $2 per 100 words and you are asking for big trouble.

I have seen some awful ones over the years and also some great ones. With good writers it takes years to find the best ones. I have three at the moment and they have all worked for me for over 2 years.

I suppose its like being married - they know what you like and how you think! Mine very rarely even ask me how many words I want as they know already.

Large freelance websites such as Elance, freelancer and Odesk are my preferred option, because I can purchase mediocre articles fairly cheaply at under $10 USD for 500 words.

If you are looking for top quality content and articles then Constant Content, Textbroker or hiring a copywriting professional are the routes most often taken. Both Contant Content and Textbroker check each article for duplication through a copyscape system, so you can be guaranteed that the articles you purchase are completely unique.

I've had some descent articles written by ineedarticles, but lately it's been a crap shoot. Worst part is, there's no accountability if there's a poorly written article. Stick to Elance or iWriter at least there's feedback in the way of a re-write or refund if the article sucks.

Been trying for 2 weeks to get a response from them on some articles I paid a premium for that were either: written by non-native speakers, written robots, or written by a spinner. I even had one that was plagerized.
