Is it a good idea to have a link page on your website? Like if I build a page that gives other webmaster permission to link to mine as long as i make it easy for them to find and utilize? Im still learning about all the ways of generating traffic and getting indexed so bare with me please. Thanks in advance for any input!!

Getting traffic and being indexed have nothing to do with a "links" page.

The answer is - it's your site. Do whatever you want to do.

If you want to put a links page on your site, do it. Just don't associate your site with low quality sites.

and maybe I really am that much of a newbie,..but,..How would having a link page NOT help in getting traffic? If they were to take one of my graphics or a text link i have set up and put it on their site, wouldnt that have the possibility of generating something as long as they were in an associated niche?

          You're asking two separate questions.

          Which one is it?

lol sorry man, I must be getting some bad info, I'm reading this book right now and I will give you an excerpt from it. Maybe I'm reading it wrong and taking it in wrong, I have been studying all day so its highly possible I'm just frying my brain here. Anyway here is what I'm looking at:

"Build a link page on your website giving other webmasters permission to link to yours and make it super easy for them to do it. Put everything they will need right at their fingertips and make it easy to find. If you offer several choices for links, make sure there's enough separation between them so it is easy to see where one ends and another begins...don't jam things together.
Provide HTML code for your link so they can just copy and paste it on their link page
The easier it is to add your link to their pages, the more likely it will get added by webmasters. If it is a hassle, they won't bother to use your link. Before you post the code on your link page for the webmasters to access, make sure your URL is correct. Check it!...Check it!...Check it! How stupid would you feel if you published an incorrect link for your own site? I know because I’ve done it."
So am I just taking this the wrong way? Am I confusing myself? I do appreciate you trying to help.

You haven't read it wrong, but it is slightly misleading. You don't want other sites to link to your links page. You want them to link either to your home page, sales page, or whatever pages are important.

One way links are going to be much better than two way links, and if you have more than one website, this is easy to achieve. The other party links to your site, but you link to them from a different site.

As mentioned, it is better if you are linking to relevant sites. So if you have a wedding site, you could link to catering sites, limousine hire, bridal wear etc., You get the idea.

Doing this is fine, but embedding links in relevant content will probably work better.

Thanks Curtis. I guess that would be something to test, or do both, why the hell not

This has nothing to do with what he's asking.

Honestly I'm not 100% sure if it would be similar or not. It seems it would be so. And I was thinking it was good for SEO and indexing since it would get your pages link out there on similar niches websites, plus hopefully getting visitors from their website. I will have to do more research on it though obviously. That will come once I'm done reading this book. GOTTA FOCUS!!

The problem with links page is that you can have sites that are totally irrelevant or useless to your website's purpose and this is not attractive to Google as well as to your visitors as they may see this as a spam. Links page are not really that useful now. They may have been many years ago but definitely not in this age.

Now I understand what you're asking.

You're wanting to do something like this, right?

    FindSounds - Link to Us

You can do it, but it's a dated technique that no one really gives a fat rats about. You're much better off embracing social share buttons.
