Membership site: How to provide great content?

I have a great idea for a membership site in the mental health niche.
I'm a designer, and will certainly lack the copywriting skills to write great articles.

Newbie question: What's the best solution? I'm guessing articles can be purchased right?

Thanks!

You could publish articles for free if you use Ezinearticles.com, but the caveat is that Google doesn't like duplicate content. If you want 100% original content, then yes you may purchase articles from several sources.

Another solution would be to hire an expert in the mental health field. This may sound a bit daunting, but it's easier than you might think - certainly easier than most people make it. You don't have to pay them anything up front. Just offer them a percentage of the profits from the site. This is very effective.

    Good luck!

Thanks SO much! Awesome advice--especially the suggestion on hiring an expert for a percentage of the profits.

A .org domain I imaging would be far more marketable for this type of niche?

Ryan Deiss made an interesting suggestion in his Publisher Model (everything available at his site drivingtraffic.com):

Go to http://rtir.com which is the Radio-TV Interview Report. These are experts hoping to be interviewed. All their contact info is there.

Identify the ones in your niche. Contact them to set up interviews. While you're at it, see if one or more of them are interested/capable of writing content.

Strike a deal, cut up the profits. You get the idea.

Hope this helps! I can tell you from experience interviews are awesome and provide great value to your subscribers/members!

    I second the interview concept.
If you just get a 1 hour interview with someone, that translates to MANY articles and resources. Just make sure you're asking the right questions.

The mental health niche is one into which you should tread with caution.

Finding authorititive content is not difficult and you can source all of it for free from professional magazines. They will allow you to publish articles subject to copyright acknowledgement and probably provide even more direct help if you explain the purpose of your site.

One of the great difficulties for people with generic health problems is that they don't know where to go for up to date information. They don't have access to professional magazines nor do they have an easy option when it comes to asking questions because they don't know where to go.

Your membership site could become a very valuable resource for these people and provide a welcome access to informed and accurate opinion.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

You could hire a couple of article writers to write the content for you

This is absolutely true. So I'll definitely suggest that always take out time to review the articles which you may get from your writers. Cause you are sole responsible for whatever going on your site.

Survey your members, let them ask questions, etc.

Then record a Q & A session with an expert on the topic. Address what you learn in the survey and any specific questions that your members have.

Once you have the audio recorded, you can chunk it up however you want to make lots of great content. You can also have some or all of it transcribed so you have some written content for your site.

I would say you have two ways out:

    1. Purchase articles in packs or...

    2. Outsource the actual writing

Much akin to the point Artwebster brought up. It is important that you make sure of the quality of the information you are providing. As such, outsourcing the articles or other content creation requires appropriate care. If your content producers use shaky original content to product their work for you, you are in turn providing shaky content to your subscribers.

As with any niche, you are responsible for the content you choose to use. But some niches offer more opportunity for incorrect content to backfire.

If you get help from an expert in the field, you might want to see if you can get them to read the content before you start sending it out to the world.

In my opinion interviewing an expert and discuss the latest and issues or challenges faced by your market trumps out any content out there.

Lets face it , any content which is already existing in form PLR or any other media they r not fresh and it doesn't cover the current issues and challenges faced by the market.

In fact u will be able to attract, persuade and motivate more prospects by engaing them in some content which is already happening in their mind.

I think interviewing an expert and leverage their experience and skills would be the best thing to do for generating content.

If u look at the membership models follow some of the standard membership models preferebly some wordpress based membership sites would be the best thing to do given all the changes happening int he internet today.

    hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    -Gaj

I agree with your idea for a .org domain. People will see it as a more authoritative site. For some reason, people tend to trust .org more than others. But from our end, the only difference is a few bucks.

Thanks again guys. This forum is great!
Big thanks to artwebster for your advice.

He brought up an excellent point I'd like to elaborate on.

Been a member merely a week, yet I've grasped the vast amount of people we're capable of reaching with a well executed internet marketing campaign. While caught up with statistical data, or reaching certain sales goals--it's easy to forget the underlying purpose which is to improve the lives of people. Sure, not all products serve this purpose--but for my case, having completely overcome a mental disorder through years of consistent effort and therapy, I feel obligated to share my story. IM will merely be the platform to my devoted cause to change lives. The fuel behind it: my compassionate awareness for people around the world with potential to live far happier lives.

      Some content ideas:

      - When you get an article, make a powerpoint presentation of the key points, read the article aloud while moving through the powerpoint slides, record with Camtasia, and you've got a video!

      - Record your expert interviews using Skype and Call Graph. Post them as podcasts, them get them transcribed and split them into multiple articles.

      - Record quick Q&A sessions using your webcam.

      - Scour Gutenberg and other public domain resources for public domain texts on your subject. Spiff them up, make a PDF and offer it for download.

      - Create resource lists, top 10 lists, "5 Ways to...." articles, website reviews, etc. These don't take much writing skill.

      - Send out interview forms with 5 or 6 standard questions to every blogger in your area. Each one who responds gives you a new piece of content.

and on and on. There are tons of ways to generate great content!
