The point is page rank is not fake, and cannot be faked.

Page ranks are easily and commonly faked - for example, when a site uses a 301 redirect to a higher ranked page.

And what use would that be to a website if you redirected to a higher pr domain.

Were you dropped on the head as a baby?

It's very easy to fake page rank, just forward your domain to google.com, wait for the next pr update, disable the forwarding and build your own site. Instant pr10 site for a few months until the next pr update.

Think next time before you make an absolute statement On Something you clearly know nothing about.

What you said makes no sense. can you show me a example of a faked pr?

What I say makes perfect sense. Try researching s bit before you declare something that is false to be absolute truth. I don't need to show you an example, nor do I feel like spending time looking for one

Huge scandal where hackers put hidden links on PR 8 and 9 sites and pointed to their site, then sold links there. Still going on right now.

Page ranks can certainly be fabricated. There are several websites that are banned from search engines when caught using cloaking techniques to fake page ranks. Page ranks can be faked by using 301 or 302 redirects. It doesn't help the website get better rankings but it can trick search engines as well as people to visit sites they don't intend to visit.

This explains it and shows how tricky it can be to chase down fake Page Rank.

This one is done by redirecting to another high PR domain.

I think the statement can be tweaked a bit. Page Rank is certainly not fake. It's created for a reason.

However a more true statement is Page Rank can be faked with black hat tactics. But it would last only as long as the next google update.

Page rank is an interesting metric but is not the be all end all. It is also certainly not something you can make a value judgment on when comparing the value of websites and domains etc. The internet has moved on a lot from the PR algorithm and so has Google.

Indeed ... they signify less and less, all the time. Google has even said publicly that ceasing to publish page ranks "remains a long-term objective" (I don't understand what's taking them so long, myself). http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...ar-2013-a.html

I think it would be very easy for them to get their own algorithm to fake page rank. It's their algorithm and they can make it do whatever they want.

So can you even trust the page rank that google displays for a page?

    I think not.

      Why would Google do that?

Even if Google isn't messing with us, you can't trust the displayed page rank to tell you anything useful.

Page Rank is based on a logarithmic scale, meaning that each 'PR' number is actually a power of ten. So a page with PR4, for example, could have a 'true' page rank of anywhere from 10,000 to 99,999. So that PR4 could be valued anywhere from 'barely better than a PR3' to 'almost as good as a PR5' by Google.

Add the fact that toolbar PR is rarely, if ever, updated anymore and the fact that it plays an increasingly minor role among a couple of hundred other factors, and the only people it should mean anything to anymore are the folks peddling 'high-PR backlinks' to clueless newbies...

^^^This! Relying on Google for anything (soley) is like relying on my neighbor Verna to predict the rain! "My knee hurts, it's gonna rain!"

On a serious note, as stated above and in below posts, Google is a business, the sooner marketers understand this, the better off they will be!
