How to present a price quotation for a web designing project

Hi All,

I have developed some web designing skills and wants to start providing web designing services. I have got two potential customers. My problem at the moment is presenting a price quotation. I don't want to over quote, nor under quote. This will be my first time doing this.

These are my first potential customers so I want to get it right to secure the contract. They want me to present a price quote with different webdesign options.

The work will entail the following:

1. Design the websites
2. Host the websites
3. Maintain the websites
3. Host Client's emails
4. Domain Hosting

Can some one please help me with a guide on prices (price numbers will be helpful) and design variations like:

1. One-page presence website
2. Template-based website

Thanks in advance for you help.

You can subcontract all of that via odesk or even fiverr. I would suggest you use an RFQ template to look very professional and then subcontract. Of course, only subcontract to outfits that can give you the highest quality at the lowest prices.

What I did in the beginning was contact other web design companies posing as a customer. That way I then see their quotes to give me a better idea. Now that I have been web designing for years, I know what to quote based on client needs. Its actually more of a feeling nowadays than what someone else is charging somewhere else around the world.

Do some research on those that offer similar services and get the average. You can then decide which quotation is the most appropriate for you.

    Aren't #2 and #4 the same?
    Don't ever do #3!

When you just start out you can NOT really ask for what is the industry's standard... because most likely your skills are not yet at the 'industry's standard' level. Or are they?

One-page web presence is a nonsense. Sorry. Who has nowadays a one-page webthing? Why would anybody have anything like that? - Want to earn your future client's respect and recognizition of your expertize? Educate them about what a real web presence is, offer useful free advice regarding their project. They will love you and will accept any price you are comfortable asking for your efforts.

Customers, usually, are dumb when it comes about the online world (if they weren't they wouldn't talk to you!!!). Take their hand and guide them to understand what is involved in developing an online project. Provided YOU have a clue about it... because it is way more than having a beginner level web design skill.

First search those providers that are providing service something similar to yur.
Send a wonderful proposal to thmem just like they send it to you and if they did send you a proposal with a price then it means you are in the right direction other otherwise restart the prcoess with a different customer.
The price of your service can be same or competitive to what other providers have offered you.
