How to monetize a sports blog?

Instead outsourcing someone to make up a fake blog post about something I don't know a whole lot about I thought about setting up a hosted wordpress blog about sports since I am a die hard sports fan especillially the NFL and NBA. I could easily write a post on my blog about Tim Tebow or Lebron James. I know those two names could bring huge amonts of traffic to my blog. But I would like to know how can I profit from this. Should I set up an adsense account or begin to start offering my cpa offers. Also can I build a list using this method?

Hey there - I'm thinking about starting a blog with a similar angle. Shoot me a PM - there might be an opportunity for cross promotion.

What about by selling gear? Are there products on Amazon - jerseys, etc?

You want to think about the type of people on your site and what they are looking for; people checking out sports info and sports fans aren't necessarily "buyers" for a particular product. If you do get a lot of traffic you can put your site up for ad space on some of the other ad networks like buysell ads.

It can be a little more targeted versus AdSense ads; ask yourself if AdSense is serving ads for random products will your visitors likely click?

You could also potentially research some sports related education products for people who are actually athletes like the Jump Manual on Clickbank.

And then product wise you could also sell jerseys, but even more so DVDs, lower ticket items.

You could also build a list with a newsletter offer, and then email them with event targeted offers, like on Father's Day or during playoffs you could have a contest for tickets and things like that.
