Changing fonts using wordpress

I have a question about wordpress I'd really appreciate some help on!

My problem is... I create content using word or open office, but then when I go to copy and paste my content onto a new wordpress page or post, some of the font changes. I have two different style fonts (even though when I view the html side, it says only one font style). I have no idea why and I don't know how to change it. Currently I don't even like using the "text" window because all the html and content is literally one line after another, a jumbled, giant paragraph of text. There is no line break between my tags and content...

I prefer writing and editing my content using the visual window side. I was just wondering if there is some plugin I can add so (just like the tool bar above while creating a thread for this forum) I can easily change the font of my text in the "visual" window of my wordpress. A dropdown arrow that lists various fonts, etc, so I just highlight and change the text, I don't have to go into the "text" window and change the font manually with html.

Please and thanks!

Yeah, it's not good pasting from Word...

If you did want the text alone, you'd have to copy to notepad, and then copy and paste to wordpress, which will get rid of the dodgy formatting.

From word, you could generate the HTML for the document, and copy and paste that? Most of the time I find copying as pasting is enough without HTML generation, as it only usually takes a couple of tweaks to make it work as intended.

The best thing to do is to get yourself an HTML editor - plenty of free ones about, and use that to create your posts, then copy and paste that into the HTML editor in Wordpress.

Thanks a bunch! I opened the content using Kompozer and changed my text how I wanted there, then copied and pasted the code to the html text window. I still had to change a few things on the visual side and it was REALLY wonky... for example the listed items were

      1.
Like this. With the number a line above the headline.

      1. And when I would put the cursor at the beginning of the headline and backspace to have my headline on the same line as the number, it would italicize my headline!

really weird stuff... some other "automatic" weird things were happening... but for the most part I got it to work and it seems to be easier than copying & pasting straight from word. Thanks!

    sb06,

Download a plugin called TinyMCE advanced. It is a lovely tool for formatting your text on a WP blog.

I have tinyMCE Advanced... but there still isn't an option to use different style of font. I can highlight text and change the size and turn it into a "heading" etc, but theres no dropdown to change the font style :/

The problem happens when I copy and paste text from word or open office to wordpress and one heading will randomally change to a different style of text or a paragraph might be different. I was looking for a way to highlight the entire text in wordpress, and change the font style with a click of a button.

I'll try copying and pasting from notepad, and then just using wordpress to create headings. Thanks!

There is on my tinyMCE Advanced dashboard it's limited but it gives around 15 of the more popular font styles to choose from

Make sure you really browse through the TinyMCE options on the settings page. There really isn't anything you can't do with formatting, you just have to make sure you select what options you want to show up on your "toolbar".

And yeah, never paste from Word. Screws everything up. Especially the way it will look in Internet Explorer. Sometimes I forget and when I look in Firefox it looks ok, but in IE it's all f'd up.

When you are in WordPress go to Settings >> TinyMCE Advanced. The following screen will appear. You can drag all the different buttons you want into the MCE toolbar so that when you create a page or post those formatting button options will appear there. Don't forget to SAVE once you have dragged them to where you want them.

        Hi sb06,

as others have said here, you can just select your font in your Word doccie and paste it into your Wordpress page.

I started doing that, but you can come a bit unstuck when you want to edit the editor box in WP directly, - you end up getting all sorts of fonts displaying.

The plugin that the others have suggested and that you appear to have works fine though. Not sure why you can't seem to change fonts.

I did find the plugin to be a little bit tricky when I first used it. Deciding how to get all the extra features displaying neatly and in some sort of logical order was not the easiest thing I've ever done - lol

But the 'font family' option is there. I'm thinking perhaps you've missed it in the line up.

I have to say, I wondered how the Pro version of this plugin performed, but never got round to buying it. The developer Josh gives great support though - to his great credit. I'm not affiliated in any way to him or the product by the way.

        Hope you get it sorted

Wow I've been using TinyMCE forever and never realized it could do all that stuff. I was just happy with the basic features.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

You can first change the font in Microsoft Word, so that when you paste it, it will be the desired font and still formatted correctly

If you have started to edit the CSS of your WordPress theme you probably know that you can change your font style of any site element by using the font-family selector. For instance, to change your site's title font, you might use the following code inside the theme style.css file:

    #site-title a {font-family:georgia;}
