Keyword Marketing Question

I'm a bit confused about the keyword marketing. I understand I should have 20 or fewer keywords associated with my website but out of those 20, which ones do you target with articles?

My guess is that I pick one and work on it until I feel I am high enough in the searches for it and then start work on another. As one or two keywords move up in the searches then others will follow as my page will start looking better and better to Google.

Is this right?

I'll probably have a few people who disagree with me on this one, but I would write one or two for each of your 20 keywords. I think it's much easier to be ranked once you have a few different keywords you're already ranking for, so by spreading the love, you might see better results quicker.

I know it worked that way for one of my websites, where I wrote three articles to try to compete with one category, and eventually got #1 for a small term, but then only had to write one article to get #1 for another article aiming for a more competitive term.

    J-Mac,

Not sure how your site is structured but I have always based the number of phrases on the amount of competition.

The more competitive the niche, the more focused your page would need to be. The exception to the rule here would be if you were to implement some for of IP delivery or cloaking and then your site could literally rake for as many keywords as you wanted.

Cloaking is a very controversial subject and has caused many a heated discussions attempt it at your own risk.
