Problem with mic/ audio can you help please

Hi when using my microphone (analogue but should be fine as new!) it worksfor a bit then the output starts to go a bit wierd, this is when ive set it up properly and when im using Jing , Camtasia, Powerpoint or on webinars. My audio is fine for all sounds normally and its only on playback or others listening to me on webinars etc that the problem raises its head bt its stopping me making progress with my plans
Help im flumoxed , dont really want to have to get another but of course if its the only option i will get a USB one but could it be my sound card on the PC or something else, thanks

Here are some things to check -

* Do your Windows Audio settings match your audio card? (Meaning is your audio card of choice the one listed in Windows Control panel as default?)
* Do your programs have that same audio card as their defailt audio device?
* Download "Audacity" (a free audio editor - Google it) and record into it. Are you getting good audio? If it's the same as the others, your microphone might be an issue.
* Did you try the recorded audio on another computer to make sure it wasn't your soundcard or speakers? (You can copy it to your mp3 player to try - if it sounds good there, it's your speakers or sound card.)
* What kind of microphone do you have? Condenser microphones require "phantom power" which means that you need an audio interface that can do that.

You could consider a USB microphone - there's some pretty good options for not taht high a cost and you could get pretty good results with them.

Usually, though, audio related issues can be narrowed down to:

* The path from the microphone to computer (including the microphone, cable, or input side of your audio interface).
* What happens inside the computer (software settings, Windows settings, etc.)
* What happens from the computer to you hearing it (output side of the audio interface, bad speaker cables, bad speakers).

See if you can start narrowing it down and PM me if you're still having trouble. I have a background in music production and could give you some pointers if you're going to get some new gear.
