What program to use to chop the first x minutes of a longer video?

Hi,

I got some gaming videos, from 30 minutes to 1 hour (or something like that). Need to create 3-5 minute trailers, in a low-size format.

Do you guys know of a program that will use the first X minutes of a video, code into a specific format and save it as a small video/trailer?

Paid or free, does not matter - but I do not want to pay huge for something like Sony Vegas (total overkill for this).

I would just use Windows Live Movie Maker. It is free and you can edit the video however you want. It will take a long time to upload, and when you are done and want to save it, use the computer setting otherwise it will mess up the audio.

That will make too much time, looking for something that will be do it automatically

Something like
- Select movie
- Length: 5 minutes
- Select codec and size.
- Create

Does probably not exist.
What about server-side?

  As far as free editors go, one called Lightworks is probably the best. I don't think there are any programs that do exactly what you want, because it is so easy to do with any editor. You just need to open the original, crop what you want, and export; literally would take less than 30 seconds from open to export.

My all time favorite (and not super expensive) is ScreenFlow. Unfortunately its only for Mac. If you're on a PC, I'd recommend Movie Maker (even though it takes more time than what you are asking for.)

I think Joe hit the nail on the head though - it's SUPER easy to do with any editing prog so there may not be a one stop shop.

I'm pretty sure Any Video Converter will do what you want.

After you import the videos you'll have an option to set the "output duration" including start and stop time of the videos, as well as set the codec.

I've never used this feature, but give it a shot...

  It looks like this will do the job, however Any Video Converter will "batch" process multiple files at a time, if that's an issue.
