    Pay a mentor.

That would have shaved three solid years off my learning curve and that is the truth.

I kick myself just thinking about the time I wasted - and I spent way more than $1000 trying to figure it all out.

Also, learn how this business really works. After all, it is a business. you have to get up everyday and go to work.

Sure, you get to do your work in a coffee shop all day, but it's still work.

If you have discipline, a good plan, and a mentor who has walked the walk, you can't lose.

If you don't know anything about IM, you may want to look at getting a reputable coach or mentor.

The reality is, if you don't know what you're doing, you can easily piss away $1k and have nothing to show for it.

Its obvious from your wording that you're

          a) fearful of failure, and
          b) looking for overnight success

I can tell you now that any mentor that's worth learning from isn't going to take you seriously.

I recently saw a thread where a student was ecstatic about making his first dollar online...literally. I believe it was a dollar and some change over several months...and that was with a coach with a great rep here.

Of course that may be just the beginning of something much bigger but If you put all these coaches in a room and ask them to produce most will need months to set things up and some will not.

I personally would like to learn from someone that isn't going to take thousands now to teach me how to make pennys long months from now. That is just me. I am not trying to talk anyone into my way of thinking at all.

        Here is my $500 -$2000 coaching/Mentoring training.

Inside there is an included Fast Cash Method...this could be teaching them how to promote your course for some fast cash. But at least they recoup investment.

        Also less refunds.

        Simple as that.

        -Art
My point, which you completely missed (I know it was tongue in cheek, but still fairly obvious), is there is no fast cash method. At least none that doesn't involve some sort of dishonest trickery. And there are plenty of shady mentors or gurus or con artists who will be glad to show you those ropes. The lesson comes after you wake up one morning realizing you've been scammed with plain bullshit. Oh, but it sounded soooo perfect.

Business is simple in its concept. You don't need a modern ebook to learn what to do. You could find the answers in a basic business guide written in 1800. Here it is, free of charge: Find a product or service that people want and can afford and give it to them. Offer great customer service and build lasting relationships with your customers and some of those customers will tell their friends. Unfortunately this goes against the grain of all the fast talking liars out there promising instant riches.

What I see in your post is a lot of vague ideals that can never be met. And that's mainly because you're too focused on some false "idea" of what this is all about. There is no mentor I could conceive of that would be able to help you because you come equipped with a complement of excuses that cover just about everything.

Still, I wish you the best. Good luck.

Offering services in order to make "fast cash", as you so put it, falls under "common sense".

You don't need a mentor for that.

If I taught a person how to quickly offer a service and get paid cash....today....is that concept foriegn to you? My goodness.

I cold list 50 more ways a person could get paid in a day or days online...but funny how "expert coaches|" find this reality impossible to embrace....amazing.

          Hey Art,

Watch it with the hater remarks. That nonsense isn't going to get you anywhere with me and shows that you need to resort to childish name calling when you're unable to make a point.

And you could teach a person how to offer a service until the cows come home but the newbies who can actually deliver a valuable service that people are willing to pay for are few and far between.

It completely depends on your current level of skill and knowledge. I'm assuming here that you're a complete newbie.

Several people here and recommended getting a mentor or coach. That's an excellent suggestion...but not if you're a complete newbie.

I've spent thousands of dollars on IM books and courses and thousands more ($12.5K to be exact) on a coach/mentor. (She was worth every penny!)

A mentor can be a VERY good investment (it was for me), but not to start with. As a complete newbie without even a basic foundation in IM, you'll be wasting their time and yours. To get the most out of coaching, you need at least a basic foundation in IM.

The best place to start is with a good, comprehensive IM course that teaches you the basics and walks you through what you need to know in step-by-step fashion. Yes, searching Google and the WF can be very helpful, but often, it just confuses you more than anything else. A comprehensive course will save you big $$$ in wasted time and frustration. (Ask me how I know. :rolleyes

I've heard good things about Chris Farrel's membership although I've never taken it and can't speak from experience. However, the two top IM training courses/programs I recommend are Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula (https://www.productlaunchformula.com/) and Ali Brown's Elevate course, an online training program (Elevate 2013).

I've purchased and learned from both of them and both are my top picks for learning Internet marketing.

Once you get the basics down and if feel you still need a mentor, then look for one. You'll get a lot more out of the coaching though if you've done some basic homework first.

    Hope that helps!

There are many ways you can spend $1000 and get much more out of it.

I don't know your current position or knowledge in the internet marketing area so my first suggestion would be to hire a mentor. This step is crucial if you don't want to experience depression and failure (or just a little one).

Because, I'm an SEO guy my second suggestion is to create a compelling authority website and push it up in the search results. You will of course need some decent SEO knowledge to do this or hire someone to do this for you. You should be able to do this within $1000.

Third is also from SEO area. Many people are in need (or so they think) of good quality high PR links. I suggest you build small network of sites with PR 4 or 5 and rent links on these sites. Now, you will have to do your best effort to make them look natural if they are to last.

Fourth would to pickup a good affiliate product and invest into paid advertising. However, you could lose that gran PRETTY quickly if you'd never done this before.

    Hope this helps a bit.

This might not help if you're going to invest it purely on online marketing, but I've heard from a few people to invest into Tesla Motors because they're apparently going to make a lot more money due to the fact that they're brand new Model X is coming out next year. It's just an idea
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8089566].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author OrangeBull
Actually if you had invested in Tesla a few months ago you would've made some money when a short squeeze hit the stock. 40% of the float has been short sold, so when they published their first ever quarterly profit, the stock went up, and shorts were forced to buy back, even though a secondary offering was coming that should mean the shorts were right. This was then made worse for the short sellers when it was revealed that Elon Musk, the principle investor in the company and Chairman was going to buy $100 million more stock in the secondary offering which would normally hurt the stock price, forcing a secondary short squeeze on top of the initial short squeeze.

Tesla may or may not make money going forward, but it is presently WAY OVERVALUED due to a short squeeze that was manipulated further by Musk to the company's benefit in the secondary offering.

$500K per car sold market capitalization is unrealistic. By way of example, GM and Toyota are like $29K per car sold market cap.

Essentially, Tesla was a short term money maker due to a short squeeze play that forced short sellers to buy the stock back at a loss. In a few weeks or months it will probably settle back out to somewhere $30 to $40 a share less than its current price.

Of course, you could potentially make some money with $1k playing Tesla options. Puts may go up in value in a few months. If you had considerably more money, Collars would be quite appealing.

Okay, I have to chime in here. There's been lots of very sound advice floating in this thread. I can't help but to add my two cents.

If I had $1,000 to invest, here's what I would suggest doing:

      1. Put 20% of that aside as your slush fund. You need to have a savings to draw on if the business gets tight, or you see something that is a proven winner and need the extra bucks.

      2. Don't just find a good mentor. Research them. Ask others who have used that mentor, what results they have seen as a result of their mentoring. And, ask that mentor, what would they invest that money in, to get a return on their investment, that they could turn around and reinvest to grow the business.

      3. Research your niche. What specific areas do you want to get into? What is your passion? Who do you want to help and work with? Make a short list of your interests.....then be prepared to diverge into areas you hadn't thought of.

      4. Invest in the War Room here (if you haven't already). Lots of quality tools in there. And when the day comes that you have something to give back, do it.

      5. Stay focused on whatever you choose. Mentoring means nothing if the student is not willing and intent on success. It is very easy to blame the mentor for lack of success. But it is a team effort. They are your coach - only you can follow through and deliver. If you are looking for someone to hold your hand and give you a running start, that is fine...but be ready to run when they let go of your hand.

      6. Use this forum to its potential. There's lots of smart, wisened brains in here. We can help you avoid some of the pitfalls we have experienced. Network and brainstorm on some of the things mentioned above.

      7. HAVE FUN!!! This industry is not about WORK. We're all here because we WANT to be....not because we HAVE to be. If that was the case, this would be a J-O-B. And we all know, that is a taboo term in these parts. =)

Good luck in your ventures, and don't hesitate to reach out to make a new contact. You just never know when someone's talents, strengths, and experiences might play into your gameplan.

      Cheers,
      Brian

Seriously, I would first look into 2 things: list building and media buys. What you've got there is a perfect amount to be starting up a long term business.
I dont know what your current skill level is, but you probably are good enough to know the basic necessities: autoresponder, hosting, etc.

Initially, I would go to Lending Club (a crowdfunded lending site - Google just bought into it) and loan it to a moderate (not high) risk borrower for a short term loan. You can get 18-24% ROI on many of these. Rinse & repeat until you have $10k. By that time, online equity-based crowdfund investing will have kicked in and then you can buy into a hot start-up concept or two.
