Autoresponders and unsubscribers

can someone answer for me what happens when somebody unsubscribes from the autoresponder? I'm curious to know if somebody subscribes and begins to get the email series and then unsubscribes, does their actual email stay in your system?also, if they re subscribe, does the autoresponder series restart?

If someone unsubscribes from your list you will lose their email. And yes, if they subscribe again for whatever reason, it restarts the autoresponder series from the beginning so depending on how you have your email campaign set up they will most likely get some duplicate emails.

Hope this helps clear things up for you.

That's not true for Aweber. Unsubscribes remain on your list (they just become dormant). This is something that I find annoying, because even though the person has unsubscribed, and is no longer receiving your emails - Aweber still charge you for having the lead.

What if they're already on your list as an unsubscriber? Have you tested this?

      I haven't so I can't say for certain.

Like John said, with Aweber unsubscribers do remain on your list and are subsequently still charged for them. However, you can manually delete the unsubscribers from your list in Aweber.

Thanks for the responses! I wondered if it they were deleted, was it worth exporting your list every so often, or does it not matter since they can't receive an email from you anyways and it's unethical to use that email in any other way, then what's the point of even holding onto that email.

Actually, here's a followup question. The way I have my site built, you have to subscribe (currently for free) to get access which means signing up with your email which will initiate the autoresponder series (which I still need to set up). If they unsubscribe from the emails, will that kick them out of the website membership to even though that's controlled by wishlist member?

it depends on the software you are using. the one that i am using, when one unsubscribes manually or send you an email requesting to be unsubscribed and you put his/her email to unsubscribe list, then the email stays in the database for future use (because maybe in the future you will have a more relevant newsletter for him to send) but the software puts a rule to that email not to send email until it is in the unsubscribed list

Depending on which autoresponder you are using, you want to make sure that you delete away those subscribers that have already unsubscribe from your list. In this way, you will not be charged extra even though those emails are not valid to you already.
