Scraping offline business address and contact legally

Hello warriors

I found there are tens of WSO selling software to scrape offline business information including addresses, telephones, emails, etc.

But I believe most if not all of the sites that are scraped from, don't allow us to do that. It is not legal. Correct me if i am wrong.

Or is there any websites that allow this?

I am thinking of building a directory site with some offline business addresses. But not sure whether I can just scrap from yellowpages and list them into my directory site..

Thanks !

I doubt they'd be able to sell the software if it wasn't legal. It's just scraping data automatically that you could choose to do manually if you wanted to. I may be wrong though. I do use one of the more popular scrapers that sells on this forum so I would hope it wasn't against the law.

I guess Yelp.com is one of the sites that dont allow that.

I think we can scrap the data to use personally but cant use the info to be placed in our onwn site or directory.

The emails scraped are public, posted on websites. If someone leaves an email for u to use as contact, do so. But spend some time with each mail, make it personal so it doesn't get into spam.

I was talking about emails getting into spam lol also, scraping from yellow pages will do them good, the only reason for posting their contact info on yp was to get exposure to the audience in the first place. You are safe, do it.

There's no law against harvesting public information that's freely offered by the owner. Not yet, at least.

Harvesting the public information for our own use may be acceptable. Meaning after harvesting the information, it is up to us to contact, email, mail them, etc.

The concern here is collecting all the data from yellowpages or other directories and reuse the data to post on our own website. Because the directories (that we copy the public info from) invest their money, time and energy to compile all the information from business owners whereas we just simply collect from them for free. I may be wrong though...
