How best to monetize purchased domain name already ranking in SEMrush?

I bought a domain name (expired) that already had some top-20 keyword rankings in SEMrush.

Any suggestions on the best way to monetize?

Is Adsense the way to capitalize on the SE traffic coming from those keywords, or do I look for some affiliate product to market based on those keywords, or do I try to sell the leads/traffic to a competitor (using SEMrush's list of potential ads/traffic buyers), sell ads to the same group...?

I obviously have some work to do to retain those rankings - I'm hoping to scrape some content from archive.org for that site since it was working to rank for those keywords, but I'm not averse to spending a bit of money to get quality content on there.

And I suppose a related question about SEMrush - how relevant to the domain owner is the "SE Traffic price"? So if I will supposedly get 432 for SE Traffic from the keywords, and the SE Traffic price is $1388, how relevant is that $1388 to the 'real world' (and me as the new domain owner)?

I have a Wordpress site setup, just not sure if I should get a good Adsense theme going or do some other things as listed above, or even something totally different. I'd even be open to flipping it depending on the price. Is Flippa good site to list such a thing where the web site itself is minimal but the SEMrush stats are pretty good?

Thanks for all advice & suggestions...

If you decide to go the flipping route on Flippa I would not sell the domain on its own, but definitely add a website which sustains the ranking keywords, preferably with the exact past contents from archive.org. Maybe even add a adsense, facebook, twitter and youtube account. That will increase the perceived value of it dramatically.

I did put up some Adsense ads on it quickly, but I like the suggestions for the other stuff.

Is there a preferred method for using the previous contents from archive.org? Or is it a fairly tedious manual process?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    Hi Rocco,

I do not know any other process than manually copy & past. If you have a lot of relevant pages you could think to outsource it. It'll be definitely worth it.

At the Archive they suggest you try the Warrick Tool. At the moment you would have to download and run it yourself, it looks like they got swamped with requests

Be advised that you could get caught in rather dicey copyright issues, as you have not bought the original content of the site, just the domain name. You could luck it out, but be aware of the risks. I think it would be safer just to copy the outline and put in similar content.

Looks like a Linux-based thing, but might be worth the effort. Excellent thought on copying the outline with similar content - thanks!

Still kind of wondering about the SEMrush "SE Traffic Price" metric... I understand that this shows what it would cost to buy that amount of traffic for those keywords (through Adwords, I assume), so that should be an indicator of commercial value for the owner of the website... but to what extent? Should it be mostly ignored, or is it something that gives a good barometer of what the website (and its traffic) is worth?

    What do you think?
