Warning to Affiliates: Check your commission % before promoting!

Hi guys,

I just got to get this off my chest. I agreed to promote a JV partner's program that offers a $1 trial, then $97 monthly afterwards. The sales page is very convincing so I thought it would earn both of us a huge sum.

I was right (about the program being a great seller) but very wrong (about earning both of us a huge sum). Only he earned a lot (99% of $97 per month from every customer I referred to him), while I get a teeny-weeny 1% from my all out efforts.

But it's not his fault. He gave me my affiliate link for his program and I didn't bother to check how much is the commission % (I thought it's more or less 50% as is normal with most Clickbank products). I never thought it's only 1%!

I asked him to check if anything's wrong and he said it really is 1%! He even attached images where he indicates 1% in the CB marketplace.

He says it's 1% because he's doing all the research and stuffs to create new products every month. But he's going to create them anyway for his other customers!

Oh well, it was not his fault. It was my fault for not checking. Lesson learned!

This is basic affiliate marketing 101

Every single affiliate marketing "How To" "Ebook" "Free Report" has you looking at the commission first before even considering promoting.

If you are sending customers regularly then it is time to stop. And try and make a deal, tell them you will start promoting again for a percentage of what you already sent and a higher percent of future sales. This will probably work if you are sending good converting traffic.

That's horrible. I hate hearing that. That's exactly the type of thing that gives this whole industry a bad name - shady business practices. I wish there was a way to flag this guy...but in the end you only wind up playing the same game. Get it off your chest and move on...

      Great idea Al!!!

I didn't even think about that. (I got caught up in the emotion! lol) I've actually had some success doing that....except I didn't start at a 1% commission.

      Best of luck!

I would certainly be a little upset that I was only getting 1% commission from this guy. I feel that in no way he should be flagged though. If he states the commission on his page several times, the only one that can be blamed are the promoters that didn't see or read it.

I think it's a terrible policy for the product maker to have, however. He's going to kill his affiliate following by only offering 1%. But, it's his right and he shouldn't be reported for it.

    Ouch! 1%?

Yea, I don't think he'll be having many affiliates promote at 1%...

Sorry that happened to you, it's always important to check first, but man...

That's $0.97 cents for every $97 subscriber you send him!

    Best,
    Shane
