Lead Generation - Disclosing Client List

For those that do lead gen in here for companies, do you disclose your client list to others if they want a recommendation before purchasing leads from you?

I'm hesitant to do so because it seems if you're trying to land a client and they want to talk to someone you've provided leads to in the same niche, this might cause a problem with the other party and the deal you currently have with them.

If I were you I'd find a client who's very satisfied with your services, and first ask them if you can use them as a reference for other clients in different industries. In return deliver a few free leads to them every month.

My team and I try to provide sample leads when they're available, just so that the potential client can get a feel for our leads and their quality. Don't make false promises, and be honest - you shouldn't run into any issues.

Never show your client list to anyone! That's a rule. I wouldn't share my buyer's list and my contacts even with my partner...(FYI, I don't have partners at the moment) If your prospects don't know the quality of your leads, offer them a "discounted lead sampler" before they commit to a larger/monthly order.

I don't disclose client lists but do offer a prospective clients a limited number of initial leads for free (or very low cost). That way you can easily get your foot in the door - what business is going to turn down free leads. Once they see the quality of your lead you can then negotiate a rate for future leads, including offering them exclusivity.

  • I am currently preparing a lead gen business. Here is how I will approach a potential client so that I do not have to give out my client list and still gain their trust to do business:
    • I will choose a business and add their phone number to my site - without them knowing, and track the number of calls.
    • After I see they have received 6 or so phone calls I will call them and inform where the call came from - Me
    • Then offer to continue sending them these leads; and for next two weeks the customer will pay for all leads they received during that two week period at end of week two. This will give them more time to see the value of the leads you are sending.
    • If they accept the offer, agree on a price for the leads they will be receiving before the two weeks begin.
    • After two weeks; sell leads in advance in bundles of 20. Adjust accordingly.
    • I assume that because the leads are hot, the conversion rate will be high - thus worth better $$.
    • This method should remove any friction from a potential client in agreeing to buy your leads.
This should help you make profitable sales with your lead gen business. By proving that you can provide both good quality leads and high a quantity of leads you should be able to command top dollar for these leads.

I agree with not sharing client lists (except in cases of testimonials that the clients have agreed to).

And I like your approach to offering that discounted lead sampler. Thanks for the idea, Thomas!

Valid testimonials, preferably video, would be one of the better methods, like others have posted I would not share my client list with anyone for any reason, the main reason is that my clients want their privacy and I respect that.

There are many ways to provide a good sample package for interested buyers.
