INTERNET MARKETING

Hi everyone,

I have often run into websites that use pop ups for different reasons, and I see it as useful in building lists

there is this optin page I have, so in order to increase my optin rate, I decide to use the popup to entice my leaving visitors by giving them the first few pages of my free gift...

Here now lies the problem, how can I do this... my coding skills are near zero, so I need a little help from you warriors to help me with this...

Well, I think any exit pop is going to require some code to enable. The most common one is Exit Splash by Dave Guindon, but it's kind of pricey and I believe it's a bit more complicated than it needs to be. I just use the one from this thread:

If you are using Wordpress, there are a variety of free and paid plugins that do this job.

However, be careful - I find pop ups like this infuriating, and so do others. My thinking is, if you have your optin in a visible place, and people want to opt in, they will - forcing a pop up on them will result in a much more unresponsive list.

I have removed exit popups (for optin) from many of my website because they were not converting anymore. It's like people nowdays hate this sort of exit popups. Just my 2 cent

If your website is wordpress based then you can get a free plugin for that, if not you can get a javascript popup box off the net, just Google it.

It's just a javascript event called onClose(). Check this answer on stack overflow

Personally, I immediately close any popup that comes out after I close the tab, without even looking at it and I usually never come back to the site just because of that. Regular popups I also close as soon as I spot the close button. Think twice about putting one up on your site.

I would test it very carefully, myself, before just "deciding" to use it.

(In fact, I don't test it, myself, because I've already decided not to use it.)

And I'd measure the amount of money I earn from the list, not the number of people opting in (the biggest list is rarely the highest-earning list, and there are reasons for that).

It's a very widely misunderstood subject.
