How narrow do you go?

How specific I should get when choosing a domain for a niche? I don't want to get too narrow because I would probably run out of topics. So how broad/narrow should I go when creating a domain?

For example, if I wanted to pick the niche of Ford Escorts (this is strictly for demonstration purposes only), should I create a domain which only focuses on Ford Escorts or would that be too narrow?

Would it be better for me to create a domain/niche for Ford and then my subniche could be Escorts? Or would it be even better to go even broader and pick Cars as a niche, then a subniche of Ford and then go down another level to a subniche of Escort?

    I do it both ways. But I think I usually go with a sub niche domain. I'll target a specific keyword too.

    It sounds like you should go with Ford Escorts unless you were planning a HUGE site on Cars.

    You definitely do not want to start to broad with cars. I would have to agree with Lindsay and say start with sub niche.
