Clickbank - Is this the End of Hoplink Substitution?

Over the last couple of days i have been receiving promotions for Affilorama Affiliate Blueprint.

These email promotions have hyperlink redirects from the affiliates own sites.

I thought this would be a good product to recommend so went to the clickbank marketplace to get the link - The link in the marketplace sends visitors to the main site www.affilorama.com not www.affilorama.com/affiloblueprint-live

So i checked the hoplink redirect by watching the lower left corner in my browser & saw the redirect was the same as the one i was using.

So i copied the full hoplink of the affiliate promoting this launch & was redirected to the same page i was getting using my hoplink :confused:

It appears that there is something new at clickbank stopping hoplink substitution?

If i am right the only way to get to /affiloblueprint-live through a hoplink is to be coming from a "pre designated" URL???

This is great for all the super affiliates out their with their monster lists being the only ones able to join a launch but what about the rest of us!

I may be missing something & would be very happy if i am wrong!

    this probably not something from CB's side of things.. those redirects were probably set up by the vendor, and probably force their JV's CB cookie (the same way one would cookie stuff), then redirects to the blueprint page. The affilorama cookie probably works for affiloblueprint if they are both being ran from the same CB account.

    so, the trick is for you to do the same with your own redirect

    You could set up your redirect in 2 steps..

    redirectLink1.php : stuffs the affilorama hoplink, then forwards directly to the blueprint landing page. (From the users perspective, it's seemless)

    Then check for your aff id in the checkout page.

      Thanks for your suggestion Jason, I hope this is the case it is strange that this is a major launch & i has similar emails from several "Super Affiliates" & all are using the same trick!

      Could you please explain the process in a little more detail.

      I am still missing something

      If i set up a redirect to the main clickbank hoplink my visitors end up on the wrong page.

      How do i stuff the hoplink on a redirect page?

    Clickbank has now started encrypting the hoplinks.

    it would be more difficult for less knowledgeable ppl to substitute their ids in the hoplink.

      I actually noticed today that Clickbank now has an option for you to encrypt your own affiliate hoplink. You put in your affiliate ID and the ID of the product you are promoting and it creates an encrypted hoplink for you to use. Not really what the original poster was talking about though, but interesting nonetheless.

        It's too bad that it's not an option on the "Create Hoplink" link from the marketplace. That would have been a real time-saver! Also, it doesn't appear as though you can use a tracking ID with it?

    If anyone needs an answer to the cookie stuffing question i came up with one solution - create a redirect page of 0 seconds & include an iframe of your affiliate landing page in the redirect page. redirect wherever you want.

    I saw there were quite a few options but this was the easiest to do

      ... although this is old old old news and has been in effect since like 2003, iframing your clickbank affiliate landing page DOES violate the TOS of Clickbank so using this method as your long term solution is probably not the best idea. Now that they have implemented this new fandangled encryption feature, it could also be an indication that they are implementing *other* technologies to determine if you are indeed iframing and may eventually figure out how to block 3rd party cookies that aren't set at the top level domain (translation - you don't get paid)

      ... but yes, for quick testing for conversion, it is the easiest to do

      just keep it in mind...
