Email marketing is a great strategy for long term stability and income. Once you've built a solid list you can keep selling to those people over and over again. They learn to trust you and enjoy your products, and you don't have to worry about going out and finding traffic!

Being the source of traffic - having a website, with a few million visits a day. Anything else is short-term.

I would also have to say running your own membership site.

The long term money making methods even offline or online is to never stop doing it.
There are many scenarios that said about passive income, but I don't believe about long term passive income without any activity.

Yet, for todays market, the buyers/clients buy and go without any trace; therefore, the most accurate way to make long term is Building The List.

I am not sure if you are asking about marketing methods or long term business. But I'll take it this way. If you are looking on a marketing methods that works like magic every time or whenever it is perfectly done. The best things are.. SEO, Content Marketing, Video Marketing, SEM, Social media.. and actually a lot more..

As for long term businesses, have a membership site.. but please consider that developing your own product and/ services take a lot of effort from you, or to your outsourced team.

I would say email marketing as well.
Email is easily adaptable to new market conditions and allows you to sell direct very quickly.
Email marketing also allows split testing and other ways to maximize your ROI on different campaigns.
Very sustainable and you can make a small fortune doing it.

For long term success, it's best to incorporate a variety of income methods. By earning income from affiliate marketing, Adsense, CPA ads, and your own products and services, you will set your self up for maximum long-term revenue and minimizing risk.

Be sure to use continuity programs/recurring income products and services.

My very first for both was a paid palm pilot newsletter, circa 1999/2000. Where are palm pilots today?

I spent many years selling hosting, and focused on high end dedicated servers. Several thousand dollars of monthly residuals went away when the company was purchased and restructured.

Similar things happened time and again over the course of 10 years. Companies close, affiliate terms change, etc. Hell I have tons of stuff floating around out there that is practically useless because it links to affiliate products/services/programs that are long gone.

For me personally, creating assets was the answer. Particularly passive ones. An asset is something I own in full and that brings in money. Passive ones are created once and continue to generate income indefinitely with little to no ongoing work.

Stock photography is one of my best examples. I create a photo once and it sells for years. No updates, no "new version" etc. I have photos taken in 2006 that still sell today. I own the asset so if one of my agencies goes out of business or implements terms I can't tolerate, I can simply sell somewhere else. I actually have about 5 agencies I sell through so I'm decently diversified with partners.

I use the exact same approach with websites and ebooks. I only create content that is evergreen: It's just as useful 20 years from the day it's created. I no longer bother with PLR, "limited rights" approaches, consulting, selling websites, selling domains or even making software. All of those approaches have attrition issues and/or limited lifespan.

Build an online business selling your own digital downloads through an affiliate network:

1. Start with a brand name and logo
2. Build a site, blog, facebook, twitter, etc.
3. Start making products
4. Build your list and social followings by offering high value content for free.
5. Sell products to your community.

The best I guess is Email Marketing plus continue learning of what works best during the current time. Every opportunity I think is good for your long term objective.

building a list is very important, but a slight twist why not have an off line business that benefits from on line marketing, also face book group, I can assure you a 100k facebook fan page group is better than a 100k email list.

How much money we are talking here? All the options are quite good to earn, provided only and only if you got an Idea to sell. If not, stick to own list (periodically cleaned and updated) which can help you to earn in long run!

Starting and running a real business that sells products and services in your own "passion niche" is your best bet. The "money making method" online should then just become only a part of several other promotional methods and avenues for your business. Unfortunately most marketers still seem to operate backwards, and decide that they are going to "make money online" followed by, "now what?" Thus the short term tactics are used, opportunities are tried, Pandas and penguins escape the zoo and eat up your visitors overnight, and years later there is still no solid business plan. But that of course makes you a perfect lead for the next "opportunity" provider.

I think having your own membership web site is a good way to have monthly recuring money. Find your niche, use some plr products to create website good quality uniq content, give your customer valuable services. Promote your website with affiliates and you should start selling membership.

List building is one of the most long term ways to make money.

You can do it passively with a autoresponder sequence, or actively by only ding broadcasts.

I know of some marketers who have been list building for years and make a lot of money monthly with it.

If you can create good products that are really useful you will keep selling them forever, or if you can find products created by others that are really helpful and won't disappear tomorrow, you will keep receiving commissions forever.

These products cannot be related to internet marketing, because everything keeps changing online. You should look for products that solve health problems.

I agree with you. Email marketing is one of the most long term online money making methods. It is an effective tool to build or enhance customer relationship and easy to drive sales leads.

I'm inclined to say that you want to build deep relationships
with people who can afford to buy off you at a substantial
price over and over (whatever form that takes).

In reality there won't be just ONE long term money making
method that is the best...there will be many that work.

Create a evergreen e-product. Make the right one and the income just keeps ticking in with minimum work.

I think the one that should be available for long term income is ourselves. there'll be changes so you have to prepare yourself for changes.
We don't like changes and we really want to have stable long term income. But in today's condition, there'll be more changes and I can hardly say anything that's long term... It really depends on how you build the business, that will ensure the stability, whatever your business models are.

Affiliate marketing can be a really good long term method but you have to do a lot of research and be careful which affiliate programs you use. Make sure they're in line with what you want your business to be about..

Also you'll need to do some digging about payments and payment options. My brother wasted a lot of time a couple of years ago with some programs that didn't even pay him a penny

The best thing is to provide quality content. People are sick of general info. They want real value and quality education.

I think an authority site would be as long-term as they come. You just have to keep up with the changes in traffic trends and continue providing good content.

A list. Because all other "forms" of online money making can be generated FROM the list. Also email isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact with the increase of mobile technology I think you'll see email increase in use.

I would say the best long term method of generating a healthy income online... Is to set up an ecosystem consisting of several methods. You know the saying, never put all your eggs in one basket.

Having an authority site, building a membership site and building a list all at once. It's hard work and takes time to build but I believe that will be the best strategy in the long run.

But if you're looking for a single method specifically, I'm leaning towards an authority site where visitors keeps conning back for more. You don't have to worry too much about traffic, returning visitors protects you from any hanky panky from the search engines (to some extent) and you're open to utilize other methods should you wish to.

All opinions on this thread are actually correct and each have a point to make.

Just noticed something though, of all the business models the OP mentioned, all of them involve email marketing.

So in my perspective, email marketing is the most long term.
