Made $144 With Mailing List (Need Advise)

I have a gardening mailing list and its harder to find good clickbank items. I promoted some energy saving item and reaped $144 yesterday on Click Bank. (Not sure what will happen today since I have to wait till tomorrow to see stats).

My question is:

How often should I email my list? I don't want to bug them with 3rd party stuff to often and I don't want to lose money either.

Anyone have any ideas? Also, do I just market different items or the same energy saving item?

Thanks

Hi Albert12, first off, congratulations on making yourself some money with email marketing. That is a nice accomplishment and not always that easy to do. There are many different opinions flying around about how often one should send to their list(s). As you get to know your list better you will get a good feel for what seems right for your specific situation and list. You might ask yourself what you prefer in regards to this matter? Do you like receiving emails everyday from some marketer you just recently met? You definitely do not want to come across as being a spammer. But you also want to stay in touch so you are easily remembered. And remember to offer them something of value on a regular basis and not to just promote product sales all the time. I typically use the 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, type pattern with each number corresponding to the amount of days to wait between the next send. I would vary your product offerings as long as they are in the same niche and closely related to one another. Best of luck!

As often as they expect you to, in accordance with how you've set their expectations when they subscribed. It's all about expectation-setting and expectation-fulfilling.

There isn't a simple "right answer" to this question, though. It depends on the traffic demographics, what attracted them to your site, the niche, what you're giving them for the opt-in, and so on.

A few posts/threads which might help you ...

(I'm slightly surprised to see you saying that there's a shortage of good gardening products available on ClickBank, because I imagined that this was one of the potentially better and more interesting markets there. Have you looked at places other than ClickBank?).

I just looked at click bank. I guess I did find some reasonable items there. I will probably send out another launch in 2-3 days and see how they respond.

I believe once or twice a week is best. It won't annoy them and they will not read emails every day from the same person (Eventually gets marked as spam)

dude you just found the secret to 99% of other marketers never do.

    Build a list.

Now it does not just go that far. You need to upsell, downsell, and keep them on your list buy giving them cool stuff!, the more stuff you give them to help them....the more chance you have of making good money.

just search this forum, tons of stuff to go off.

Most people think I have a big list in IM, but my list is small, however I look after them, and in JAN I made $XX,XXX off a list that is about 937 people.

Like I said, people think you have to have large lists....no you just have to have a list of peeople who like your stuff, and you help them.

I would rather have a few hundred subscribers that like me, than 500,000 lists of newbie seekers that hit the spam button when yoru messages come in, just some IM gurus. SOme of them have lists of like 1m and more and they saturate their lists with crap....and wonder why they get minimal results.

However the smart guys in IM like John Chow have thousands and thousands of subscribers and open and buy off their recommendations cause they do things the right way.

Can someone explain to me what upsell/downsell means in this context?

      Thanks

        dude!

Its simple, i will tell you in laymens terms.

UPSELL :- You send them to a page with offer, but you give them a chance to offer more value and more stuff for most expensive price, I normally triple the price.

i.e. Here is the product, or you can get the product and these 10 videos, plus our monthly membership for $97

A downsell just means, if they say no, write script in your page to instantly offer them a 40% discount. Its surprising the results you get when you test this, as some people will snap it up due to a price reduction. However remember your profit goes down if you downsell, but its a good marketing trick to use, and it DOES work if you want to make more sales. :-)

        Hope this helps.

As with regards to your question, I would say to email at least everyday. I have a friend who mentions that he did a marketing test.

If you do not email for too long, when you email out, people already forgotten who you are, and they label your email as spam.

While next, he emailed 3 time a day. Later he checked with his subs, it seems no one really bother about whether you mail him/her 2 or 3 times a day. They may not have opened your emails at all.

This is especially true if you are in the IM/MMO niche. Most already subscribed to many lists. Hence, even if you email 2-3 times a day, it will not make much a difference and you increases the chance of your emails being opened.

          Hope it helps.

          Regards,
          Jerry

I've had this problem in the past also. How often do I mail my list?

    It really depends.

But I found that 1-3 times a week works best so you can stay on their radar.

If you're wondering how to balance promos and free emails, I would do Frank Kerns CCPC method which is you mail out two content emails, one promo email, then another content email, and repeat.

In addition to Clickbank and other such sites, have you considered creating your own product? If you enjoy gardening yourself, surely you have some experience you could share.

Likewise, you could give your list a freebie (i.e., maybe something as simple as your list of top 5 shade plants with pictures, growing requirements, and reasons you like them) that you create from time to time to help build the relationship.

Just some ideas. Take in the advice, but cut your own path.

Generally speaking, sending emails two or three times a month is enough. But you’d better do email test to find out the most suitable sending frequency. By the way, what tools are you going to send email? Why not use third party software?

What's the open-rate (and is it going to be maintained, if you send "blasts"?! I always hear alarm-bells ringing when people use the word "blasts", and wonder if they're really relationship-building in their communications with their subscribers.)

It isn't for me, and I don't think it is for anyone else I know, either.

I normally post in these conversations when the consensus of opinion is that you should send an email every day, to try to point out that for some of us that's too often. As far as I remember, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone suggest that twice per month might be adequate. It just goes to show how very widely opinions differ on this subject. What really matters is to do your own testing.

You could but it wouldn't convert very well and your subscribers wouldn't likely appreciate it. I'm with Alexa, there are practically endless things you can sell in the gardening niche.

If you don't like the stuff on Clickbank, how about referring them to physical products on Amazon? It could be anything from books on gardening to tools to seeds and plants.

If I were you I would start compiling info for my own ebooks. Something like:
"Secrets to a Flourishing Perennial Garden"
      "101 Beautiful and Edible Flowers"
"Beginners Guide to a Healthy and Happy Lilac"
"How to Start a Successful Vegetable Garden Late in the Season"
"13 Ways to Get Rid of Pests Organically"

It's endless! Hmm...now you've made me want to get into the gardening niche

You can if you want a lot of unsubscriptions, some spam complaints and a significant drop in open-rates.

Are you enjoying making money from your list? Because it's not going to last long if you keep 'blasting' them with crappy offers, rubbish information and unrelated offers just to make some money from them.

Your list shouldn't be treated like $$$ signs but instead like people who signed up to your list to get solutions to their problems.

Just remember everyone on the list is a human being and should be treated like one.

I like to send emails to list on weekdays only.

I figure people are in work mode Monday - Friday, looking for more products, services, software for their business's.

But on a weekend they might switch of from the digital world, meaning that email you sent Saturday afternoon will end up at the bottom of the list come Monday morning.

That's just my thinking and from the small tests I have done I do get a higher open rate mid week.

This might be reversed with niche's that are based around an entertainment aspect though!

Don't forget to build relationship with you list! Don't just keep spamming them with offers especially unrelated offers.

What would you do if people send you offers that you doesn't even like at all and they keep on doing it? Of course you will unsubscribe.
