Membership Software? Download Manager/Protection?

Folks, I've read through the archives and maybe the answer is in there but I can't quite see it....

On the one side, I have a number of download products for sale, including products which consist of several videos plus downloadable PDF's. I wish to set up the links to these products on a protected page.

On the other side, I wish to give my customers a log-in so that they can access a page which lists the product(s) they've bought and give ongoing access to the download pages. Of course, different customers will buy different (one or many) products - though only one product at a time, unless it's an up/down-sell.

I was wondering whether membership software would give this sort of functionality - though of course each of my customers (members?) could well be accessing different combinations of products.

DL Guard and aMember seem to get good reviews on this forum, but would they provide me with the functionality I want/need (an additional plus would be the ability to integrate with an autoresponder such as Get Response and/or with the Drupal CMS and/or Paypal).

By the way, I don't particularly need Cart functionality. Customers would click on a purchase button from a sales page dedicated to the product, be directed to Pay-pal and then I'd need to get the customer to provide/set-up log-in detail and direct them to the download page, setting up log-on details along the way.

Would either of those products fit the bill (if not what do the lack?). Are there any other recommendations?

As I say, apologies if this is a repeat of a previous thread.

Hmmm...downloading the products is simple enough but them being able to log in too to their own download page is tricky. For the first, I use Smart DD. You can free trial too. Check it out, see of it'll help.

In addition to DLGuard by Sam Stephens... there is also Amember. But Amember's login setup is kind of goofy. DLGuard + WordPress is an easy setup. Those are both one time fee products.

If you can afford a monthly fee, then Josh's solution may be better for you depending on what list management solution you have. DLGuard is only integrated with GetResponse. Not sure what the setup for Amember is in that regard.

    Other solutions available are:

Butterfly Marketing Script by Mike Filsaime
Rapid Action Profits Script... kind of like BFM.
    Fantasos via TurboMembership.com (monthly fee)
    MemberSpeed (Monthly Fee)

    Hi Paul,

I think there's a subtlety in your question that really needs some thought.

A "membership" system is the first solution that comes to mind, simply because they require the customer/member to log in to access your product.

However, the term "membership" implies a commonality that doesn't fit your model. The need to log in, and the centralization of communication (customer follow up, common access url, etc), are your common denominators. BUT... you also need separation for each member so that your system can identify specific files that a "member" has access to.

I don't pretend to know all of the membership systems out there, but it seems that what you need is more of a "product registration" or "licensing" system, rather than a membership. I doubt there is any membership system out there that satisfies your needs without modification (including RAP Membership Plus), but it's a great feature.

My guess is that you will wind up with some combination of systems "cobbled" together, and that one or more of those will require modification to get them all to work just the way you want. I'd love to hear what you finally wind up with, and what you have to do to get there.

Okay, @pk-uk, the issue you'll find with ANY script (not to reiterate what's already been said before) is that it'll NEVER (and i do mean NEVER) fit exactly what you want....

this is why you have to choose a script that allows for turn-key events, while still maintaining a level of 'usability and flexibility and SCALABILITY' to fit what you need.

most do not allow this... or at the very least not very easily... some of the most 'prolific' (not best, but available and selling 1,000's in days) scripts out there, are great (one-size-fits-all-scripts)... but going in and modifying any one of them... is a nightmare of substantial proportions!

This is why you not only need the ability to get a scalable script to FIT YOUR NEEDS with full access to 'web hook' type ability and features to the code itself but also EASE OF FITTING those needs without spending $1,000's in development and additional addon costs.

I'd heavily consider the RAP Membership Script (yes, I did build - *shameless plug I know*).... while there are others out there with more substantial FEATURE lists... most are cumbersome (at best) to change/modify, while still keeping within a budget - and all the while being FLEXIBLE enough to withstand the hardest of tire kicking for the newbie and still being SCALABLE enough to fit any market with MINOR adjustments or modifications to code that is easier to understand - without having to become a PHP SCHOLAR.

I've bought all of those listed in this thread (aside from DL Guard - because at the time it didn't have membership... and all were WAAY overpriced for the value and flexibility offered). They're great pieces of software, but the price and the overemcumbered code (when I wanted something changed-tweaked to fit my needs) drove me away.

That's why I (*shameless plug once again*) decided to built the RAP Membership Addon.

Okay, I'm off to repent for my *shameless plugs*.
