It's ALL IN THE MARKETING - FUNNY EXAMPLE

I was at the store looking for some eye drops, and there was a product that was meant to flush your eyes, remove debris, etc...

It was a small package with around 120ml of product.
The price was something like $5.98.

So I'm trying to figure out if this stuff really works, what the ingredients are...so I turn it over and see in small print the ingredient: purified water!

And you thought bottled water was expensive! If my math is correct, they are charging $188.61 per gallon! That company must be making a fortune!

Haha... It kind of reminds me of the "gas drops" that are sold to parents to help infants with gas and to stop them from being fussy. They don't really do anything but just allow the parents to feel like they are doing something and cost about just as much as those eye drops

      LOL

Didn't try. If I wanted to, I would have headed to the grocery isle and picked up a gallon of purified water for around $1.

        That's unbelievable!

How would someone even think of doing something like that? I'll bet you're like 1 out of 1,000 who actually looks at the ingredients, probably even less.

        Crazy.

Yeah, but for $5.98 you would have had a perfect nozzle to pour drop by drop in your eye. Try that with a gallon container at a traffic light.

Anyway, I liked your example, because it's the most mundane products that have the out-of-the-world margins, that we often don't stop and think about.

I know, it's definitely worth the extra $187/gallon for the perfect nozzle.

Definitely. I'm sure most people don't look.

The marketing on the package was really good though. That's what made me wonder what exactly was in it. If the marketing hadn't been quite so good, I probably wouldn't have looked at the ingredients!
