Managing Multiple WP sites

Anyone know of any desktop based software to manage multiple WordPress installations? So instead of logging in to seperate cPanels and WP installations I can access them all from one central admin console. Desktop is preferable, though I'm not completely ruling out web based.

    Hi,

    I posted before because I wanted to tell you that you can also set up a WP Multisite which allows you to run all of your sites from one control panel, which is what I do now because I have too many sites to make ManageWP financially viable. I do still use ManageWP for some stand-alone sites too but using a multisite config is much more convenient than managing each one individually. Sorry, I made a newbie mistake because I thought affiliate links were okay except in signatures and apparently they're not so apologies if I offended anyone.

      Do you have more info on that WP MultiSite?!? I'm running into the same problem with ManageWP not being financially viable anymore.

    Hi Eileen,

    Sure! It's a feature built into WordPress now, you just have to enable a 'network' and then you can add more sites to your network and manage them all from one place (your main site). It's not hard to do, and well documented. It's a total lifesaver when you have a bunch of sites to manage but it does take some time to get it all set up initially. (Remember to back up your site and database first, of course.)

    If you choose not to use multi-site, you can use Infinite WP which is free, InfiniteWP - Manage Multiple WordPress Sites. I can add as many sites as I need to with this software. It is not desktop based, however, you install it on your server and it will update all of your wordpress sites and login, and backup as well. This is not software to create sites on the fly however, just mainly for updating.... Multi-site can tackle that.


    As for multi-site, I have that option on one of my sites and it is very helpful. I manage 20 wordpress sites without the need to install each instance of wordpress on every domain or every sub-domain. No matter what software you use to replicate sites, it is still time consuming in terms of run and maintain.

      I use this as well. Solid software and very fast. You can update plugins, themes in bulk. You can also login to WP Admin areas within the same window as well. It also allows manual backups and cloning with the free version. Scheduled backups to the cloud require a paid addon.

        I gave up on WP multisite installations because they were much harder to backup and restore.

          What could be difficult about it? Backup the database. Backup the filesystem contents. Done.

            What about restoring just one site? What about moving a site to a new host but not the whole multisite installation. Easy to back everything up, true, hard to work with the backup you end up with.

            Just my opinion.

    WP Supervisor is great! (from ProfitMarketer) It's oriented towards their own stuff but you can use it with any WP sites I believe.

      ProfitMarketer is no longer offering WP Supervisor to people who signup w/ them. Your better off with InfiniteWP, which is free, than trying to use WPMU / WordPress network. It's a downer when you find out that the latest and greatest plugin isn't WordPress network compatible.
