How to sell domains fast & easy?

Hi,

I've been selling domains for a few years and pretty much I was just waiting for them to be grabbed from Sedo.

But this is a very slow process.

Does anyone know better how to sell good-sounding domains fast on the internet?

Except simply listing on Sedo... Previously I've tried other similar sites, but the process was similarly slow.

Of course - I would like more exposure to my good niche keyword domains, but for free!

I own domains for the past 10 years. The best thing in my opinion is to create a Website and put some Quality content inside. It doesn't have to be too fancy. Once you create the Website hire a freelancer to increase the Pagerank of your site.

This will make your Domains more attractive and increase their value a bit.

      This may be obvious . . . or maybe not . . .

There are three things you can do to sell your domains fast, one of which is now out of your control:

      1. Buy great domains to begin with. So many people fall in love with the domain they've registered - yet when they go to sell them there is nobody that thinks they are so great. Short, keyword rich, dot coms, in my opinion, are the most easily flipped domains. (Of course, this is out of your control since you're wanting to sell domains you already own. In the future, this will help.)

      2. Put up a great web site on the domain with high quality, unique content. Drive traffic to the site and keep the traffic coming.

      3. Generate income at the site. As we all know, web sites that generate income also generate buyers, more so than sites that don't.

Once you have all three of these suggestions in place, you should have no trouble attracting buyers.

Domain names without sites, traffic, and revenue are much harder to sell than those with these improvements. It can be done, of course, but without improvements a domain is just a vacant lot and typically not a prime address.

      Good luck to you.

I agree putting a site on it. Even if it has affiliate links on it so you can make some money while trying to sell it. I would list it on afternic auction site, ebay, etc. I've sold a few names on ebay before.

You could also try emailing owners of domains in the same industry. Example if you own something like investmentviews.com email investing companies, see if they are interested. Email the person who owns the name through whois lookup, as you should know how to do.

    Good luck!

Listing on Sedo or similar sites is a passive way to sell. You may wait months or years before your domain(s) get noticed. You must take an active role in selling your domains. To start, search Google for businesses paying for Adwords using your domain's keywords. They are prime prospects. Contact them with a personal message. Look them up on FaceBook or LinkedIn. Just making them aware that you have the domain for sale can generate interest.

I only deal with .COM domains. Usually via email.

Do you mean typing in the keyword in the search box and then seeing what ads appear on the right hand side of the page? Can you elaborate plz?

Yes. search your keywords within quotation marks. This will show you advertisers who are using that exact phrase in their campaigns. They are paying upwards of $1 per click for that keyword, assuming it's a decent keyword with commercial intent.

I have 3 or 4 unused domains that never got around to developing them. I wanted to sell them for at least some profit. I have heard of domain brokering services and I tried contacting some of them but they never replied, does anyone have more info on domain brokering? (apart from sedo and such sites)

Most domain brokers will only be interested in domain names that have a real value of 10k or more.

Is there a way to automate the process of looking for similar domain names? For example, find people whom have similar domain names (or keywords) relating to your domain, and having a software that finds everything, perhaps gets whois info, and spits out a .csv?

    I'm glad Gene posted! ^^^

It's always seemed to me that the most important thing is to identify and approach potentially interested parties/businesses to whom the domain may have "extra value" because of the nature of their business. Wherever/however you sell domains, if the potentially interested parties aren't aware of the sale, you're hardly likely to get the best possible prices for them.

I agree with what the others have already said, if you want to sell in a hurry and have a domain with a website then you could try a flippa auction. Although flippa does have a domain-only listing available, I've tried it without success and it's about $15 to list so if the domain is good then it might be worthwhile to just create a small site to go with it so you can list it that way.

    Namedroppers.com might help.

For fast and easy domain sales you need to be active and look for prospective buyers. There are many ways, and Gene mentioned one which is good.

It is very important to pick a good domain name (possible even for less than $10 as I do this all the time) and then you will not have any problems with selling it.
