Forum members are free to use whatever name they want. I would guess most choose to use their real names, but there are also many "made up" names, nick names, business names, and aliases.

How is using your real name a privacy issue? You don't have to let anyone see your phone number, SS number, address, email, or even the city, state or country where you live.

I personally appreciate those who are truthful and upfront about their identity.

That's what I love most about the internet: I can be anyone I want to be.

Personally, I have about 5 "personalities" that I use to handle my online ventures, and none of them are my real name.

The only time I see my real name is when I get PAID.

    Much Success,

As Dan Kennedy said... "Privacy in America is DEAD". If a person wanted to go the length about finding detailed information on you... they could easily pay someone to do the digging about you. So no, i'm not worried about privacy.

I joined the WF using my real name for branding purposes. It's the first time I've ever used my real full name anywhere online in a social oriented site. But the plan of branding myself like that has gone by the wayside for now, but I'm stuck with it. :p

Even so, Google my name and you'll find a ton of people who have it, so you'll never really know who I am. muahahahahahaha.....

edit: Well, I guess my picture would give you a clue, lol.

Just read names and even what to hide but surely sometimes, have used pen names to my various websites and being in the game for a while would say, having a pen name is good because when I meet people and share my thoughts and my portfolio, it makes them wonder, where where and which profile does this guy come from. Makes it really nice and wonder

I always use my first name but not my last name. My website is also my username so I keep it all the same for consistency.

I'm a real person and use a variation of my name as my user name, but I'm pretty sure that everyone who has ever encountered me online knows that MissTerraK and Terra Kern are synonymous.

I'm afraid if I tried to be a whole bunch of other people, I'd eventually be committed.
I only be one person and I've become quite the expert at it, haha! :p

That is most certainly true in so many arenas, but it doesn't alter the fact that "alias" is a synonym for pen name.

So, are YOU the real "silicuda"?

A google search makes for interesting reading. Page upon page of results showing posts on numerous different forums and blogs with that username.

Maybe you're best positioned to answer the questions you've posed above. Just saying . . .

I use my real name here in WF and also for any products that I create through my company for the MMO niche, yes it is for branding purposes as this is my main niche.

However, I have dozens of pen names that I have created over the past 14 years since I have been involved affiliate marketing, some created to push other vendors products and some for products I created for a particular niche.

If you have promoted popular non MMO niche products from ClickBank you may have promoted one of my products...

The main reason for the pen names?....can't be an expert in everything

When you go into a local store do you see employees or business owners with name tags like SexyBabe234, CoolDude4, etc? You see their real names. Unless you are at a strip club.

I don't have a problem with someone using a screen name on forums... But... Here comes the but...

I will not do business with anyone until I know their real name. Some may disagree with what I am going to say next... If someone I plan to do business with does not let me know their real name, I just don't trust them. In my mind they are hiding something.

    I trust people... Not persona's.

I always use my first name, but avoid using my last one.. I don't see a problem with that..besides, if somebody wants to find out who you are and has a little hacking experience , they can probably do it...

I use the same nickname for most of my accounts on different online communities. I even use it when I play online games. But I have no problem telling people my real name. In fact, I prefer to tell people my real name.

My name is Tim by the way.

Real, or pen name does not matter for success. Look at famous writers. You can brand yourself either way.
