Success with MLM? If so which companies?

Hi warriors,

I was reading a thread here recently in regards to MLM which surprised me. I too, thought that MLM was a bad word and there was no way of making money with it but a lot of warriors are saying that they have a lot of success, which leads to my question:

If you have had any success with MLM, which companies/websites and share your experiences.

Thanks.

There is nothing wrong with MLM. As long as the product itself provide value and benefits to consumer, and people actually want the product for themselves, then you are good to go. The basic is just sharing about the product benefit. Never share about business opportunities unless there is a an 'opportunity' or good timing to do so. Because most people will mainly go for the product to solve their problem. When they feel good as a result of using the product/services, they will decide whether they interested to be a distributor or just be a regular consumer.

Basic tips: Go for the one that you love and suits you. Example: You don't want to promote herbalife if you yourself are overweight. Lose some weight, then take before and after picture, and that will be your live proof and testimonial. People want to see proof, they want a person who walk the talk, not just talk the talk.

    Just my 2cent

Problem is a lot of Online MLM focus on money making rather
then consuming products. Focus on a company who has both
Online/Offline great exposure and consumable products.

Key is to have many customers and a few good networkers.

I also don't have anything against MLM companies either. They do seem to work great for people. Unfortunately that was not my case. I can say from personal experience that the EZ Money Method got a little shady about leads and signups. If I didn't go back and triple check, someone else would be getting the commissions. I actually had to confront them a few times.

I spent some time with Empower as well. Did it work for me or suit me? NO... but some people love it and swear by it.

I made a total of 38$ one month in Empower and 25% from GVO/Pure Leverage... So I guess that is not success at all...

But if it suits you, give it a shot!

Having been in the MLM niche for the past 16 months it saddens me to see how many people here actually waste their time promoting a single product or productline, furthermore, the advice given is of poor quality and there are a lot of half answers.

The company I work with atleast trains people on how to effectively run their business.
    - We have a Business System with 6 repeatable steps

    Prospecting
    Approach
    Presentation
    Follow-up
    Fast start
    Duplication

I did manage to make myself 12,000$ last summer, and i'm in the process of repeating that success.
Below is a take-out from our 75 page manual, solid advice for any Network Marketer:

    Drill for skill technique

Drill for Skill on the approach
Since 90% of the failure in this business takes place in the approach and there are only two simple reasons why most people fail in the approach — by either doing it wrong or just not doing it — you must train each associate to become a “Master Inviter”.

You can’t learn how to do this from just reading about it, and you certainly don’t want your new BAs to practice on their prospects and make a bad first impression. The best way is to train your BAs old and new just like the airlines train their pilots.

    Creating a Training Simulator
Did you ever wonder how pilots become so good at flying in bad weather? They certainty don’t tell brand new pilots, “Look there is a storm! Take this multi-million dollar airplane up there and fly into it and let’s see how you do.”
The airlines use multi-million dollar simulators that simulate the worst conditions possible, and pilots spend thousands of hours training in them before taking to the air.
Thanks to their extensive training in the simulators, the pilot’s reaction becomes second nature, no matter what situation arises.

You must do the same thing in your business. You should create training sessions with your leaders that “simulate” real approaches. Since most of the things that they need to learn are the scripts they will actually say over the phone (Or Skype or similar technology), then using the phone is the best way to train them.

Just get at least three BAs on the phone and take turns being the leader, the new BA, and the prospect. Take it easy at first, until everyone gets comfortable with the flow.
Then gradually have the BA playing the prospect get tougher and more skeptical and start asking more difficult questions. This way, both the leader and the new BA will learn how to overcome almost every situation.

This type of simulator training will not only give your new and old leaders the knowledge and experience to make quality invitations, but it will also give them the confidence to make even more approaches. Your team will really start growing at a feverish pace.

    The Approach Conclusion

    Enthusiasm is Key
Don’t forget to show genuine enthusiasm and passion when making an approach.

    Understanding Human Nature
You must remember that people are sometimes skeptical, curious and seem uninterested. Don’t get discouraged. Just learn how to hit people’s hot buttons and use the “entice and withdraw” method to get them interested in hearing more about your product.

Drill for Skill on the Approach
Take the time to make sure all of your leaders are trained in the approach. Don’t assume they will figure it out. You can’t afford to leave this to chance.

Build a Team of Master Inviters
Remember: The leaders and teams who execute most quality approaches attract the most people to view the presentation, which leads to more recruits, bigger teams, and a bigger customer base, and ultimately leads to more potential income for you and your leaders.

Lyoness is a great company for the UK, but they lack a proper compensation plan, customer value and ethics among their representatives.

A friend of mine was approached by a Lyoness rep, who hands down tried to have my friend do all the work for him, through his account.

I haven't bothered doing an in-depth analysis of the company, simply because they have a competitor which is a lot more powerful.

      - The competitor is the company I work with, and for obvious reasons I wont go around running ads on WF.

I like Pure Leverage too. It offers a great and
useful product package at a great price... even
if you don't look at the comp plan.

I've also used and represented Send Out Cards
        since 2004.

I've looked at a lot of MLM's over the past 17 years
and have seen a few that offered "vaporsware"...
they give the industry a bad name :-(

I promote PureLeverage because of the MLM like commission structure but also because it gives you a lot of good reliable resources that are good to have in the IM world such as:

    1. Auto Responder
    2. Video Email Service
    3. Live Meeting Conference

Granted I choose to promote PureLeverage and am having success with it, but because it offers the Auto Responder service I can create a list in any other niches and promote products from MaxBounty Peerfly & CJ to really increase my profit and not limit myself just to an income from Pure Leverage.

I think any successful internet entrepreneur would suggest having multiple income streams, so I simply choose to use the service of Pure Leverage but also have it as an income stream along with streams from CPA.

    Just my 2 cents

I've been a Team Beachbody Coach since January. I haven't had any success with it, but I think that has more to do with me than the opportunity. I do not feel that it's a scam, but I do not know if this is the right fit for me. However, I'm going to keep giving it a shot (along with branching out into other opportunities, like copywriting) through the summer, because it costs me only $15.95/month to remain a Coach. If I lose my shirt, it isn't going to be because of Beachbody. =)

I would not recommend Beachbody to people who have never used the programs and aren't even interested in exercising. I'm a runner who has been through P90X several times and Insanity once; I love fitness and I love these products. You really do need to be a "product of the product" for Beachbody to work for you; it's not the kind of MLM where you put an ad on Craigslist--or put a link in your signature here--and sign up all comers. Unless you are really really REALLY into Beachbody, this will not work for you.

As Willie says Pureleverage "offers a great and
useful product package at a great price... even
if you don't look at the comp plan".
I've been a GVO customer for several years and found their service and support to be great. I had mlm success/experience years ago with a fantastic publishing company Dorling Kinderslery Family Library. I have always been happy with the concept of MLM but not always the people in it

I was tempted back in by Pureleverage because of the product package and my customer experience with GVO. I'm good with numbers but I haven't spent any time analysing the comp plan. A comp plan either works or it doesn't. An mlm company pays out or it doesn't. Don't get too bogged down with the detail but when you've got the right company for you focus on providing value.

I'm a great believer in what Zig Ziglar said " The more you help people to become successful, the more successful you youself will become". If you apply that to your MLM business you can achieve great things for you and others. For obvious reasons there's a lot of scepticism.

    Hope this helps.

It depends on what kind of prospecting system you have in place to recruit new people into your downline. It's a good idea to try and find a good team that will provide tools and training for the network marketing opportunity that you're interested in. Some will even have a team rotator to help you build your downline with paid advertising. Having a helpful sponsor is very important, unless you want to create your own prospecting system and become a leader yourself.

Well, I'm no longer with Team Beachbody. I resigned this week.

Even though this opportunity was not for me, I don't think it's a scam, and certainly there are people who are able to make it work for them. I don't feel that MLM was the right fit for my skill set. I'm better off concentrating on copywriting and other writing-intensive marketing services; I'm also using this forum to learn about affiliate marketing. I want to take the fitness blog I began when I was a Coach and monetize it. (Thankfully, unlike many Coaches, my entire blog didn't consist of nothing but sales pitches for Shakeology and Beachbody workout programs.)

The company you choose does not matter, it's all about what you put into it. On a basic level your still selling stuff... Just in a particular way, but it's the same thing even if you own a 7-11 and sell hot dogs, slurpees, beer, and dirty magazines... It all requires a product to sell, and eyeballs on your offer.

I've been in a few that I never even promoted purely just because I like the products and that is a big prerequisite. Then know the comp plan if it pays good and if they have a funnel that converts.

If you really want to succeed then you should know how to create your own funnels so you stand out among the ones who only use the company provided stuff.

When getting into MLM, it takes a individual to have the right mindset and not loose hope at a short period. Do not loose hope if there are no prospects, instead persevere or change your sale tactics. After all this is the bread and butter to get in new levels below you.

For long term goal, getting trust from the down levels and supporting your team or the level below makes MLM successful for anyone. Getting to know your levels below, you are giving them the confidence to get their place at the level they want to achieve. On a long run this makes you successful too. It all boils down to the excitement and the believe in the product and most importantly your passion for being a partner to the organization. Understanding the product is also key.

I was never in MLM until recently. I join a new and big company that has long term plans and was unique with its second platform offer in the internet/digital world that will attract the masses as this being a new social media platform where there are products sold while the partners gets commissions and residuals whenever they bring in people to this platform to stay and shop.

The bonuses and earnings are great plus the shares we get when it enters into public listing(stock market) in 3 years time. To me it was a solid long term planning and this got me attracted to this company's opportunity.

The bottom line to MLM is, the selection of the company is also important and its offers for its members on a long term.

In MLM you earn for each product you sell and for each product your recruits sell. MLM is no longer the marketers paradise as it used be in the past. The fact is, few people get rich; some make a part-time income.

Personally MLM's work if you know what you are doing and what is actually involved when you join an MLM. They all have the same concept of selling and getting partners.

The reason why I am in one is because I understand its just another way for bigger companies i.e the services you sell, to advertise. While at the same time it creates an alternative way for individuals to get their first steps into the business worlds with little investment. We all cant afford to cash out a Million to start a company.

So at least this way you can learn by starting a franchise business with others resources, i.e the MLM company.

After over 50 years in existence MLM as a business model does not have to prove itself. anymore. My parents were full time in Amway in the late 1970's and 1980's and moved almost $200,000 a year in products through their garage in Nebraska for many years.

That was the old days and hard ways.

MLM, and direct sales in general, is easier today thanks to the Internet. You still have to work at it, but if you find a good MLM with a product there is a need for it will come down to your Internet traffic generation, sorting, and follow-up skills as to whether you succeed or not.

The only MLM I was signed up with was BHIP. They sell some natural energy drinks. I still love the product (drink it when coding, helps with concentration alot) but I don't promote them anymore. I'm just not the person for this kind of marketing. What I found about MLM is that you become so annoying to your friends, all you do is talk about the product.

Everyone should try it. Maybe you find yourself being good at it (:

Here is one option: MLM Software, Network Marketing MLM software, 1-up 2-up 3-up, 5 level

We havehelped dozens of people become profitable in MLMand love the team-building aspect.

You get a core group of people moving forward and then teach them how to get a core group of people moving forward and then teach them to teach them how to get a core group moving forward.... lol. Nothing compares.

Not all MLMs are created equal. Most of the compensation plans out there will pay way too much to the upline and not enough to new distributors, putting the break-even point and profitability point WAY out of reach for most people.

Some of the new 100% commission systems are absolutely amazing and are revolutionizing the industry.

Some of the new 100% commission systems are absolutely amazing and are revolutionizing the industry.

please expand on the new commission systems, how they work. thanks!

I am also with Pure Leverage. I get valuable services at an excellent price and the money is great. Sound company, experienced management, products that we all need and first rate compensation plan.

MLM is just like any other business. It won't work if you don't. It also pays to choose the right company!

People are still responding to this thread. Did anyone else notice that the OP has been banned? I'm not sure why...

Someone here said that all MLM is a scam. Not true. There are reputable, long-standing companies like Herbalife, Mary Kay, Avon, etc. that prove this to be untrue.

I DO think it matters which MLM you join because at the end of the day, you really do have to be a product of the product. You have to use it and benefit from it yourself. Do you have to lose the most weight with your shakes or whatever? No. But you DO have to use it.

EONS ago, I tried both Herbalife and Mary Kay and never made a dime. And that was back before I knew anything about business...

In retrospect, they were both very bad choices for me, in spite of the fact that I liked the companies (and still LOVE Mary Kay). I don't advertise it, but I have a rare skin condition which is very similar to psoriasis, only much worse -- by a factor of 10 or more. It's very severe. I have good days and bad days, but no matter what day it is, there's no way for me to hide it and like it or not, it's the first thing people notice about me when they see me. (Some people have asked if I've been burned.)

So any health or beauty product is just not a good fit for me to sell, especially in a belly-to-belly model like MLM. But I'm a rare case and most people won't have this problem. (I think Beachbody is for more serious, extreme types; almost anyone could sell a shake or vitamins.)

If I were to do MLM, I'd do much better selling something like Send Out Cards, legal services, phone services, etc. Anything that doesn't depend on my personal image to sell the product.

There's no one right answer to the OP's question except to say that no one company is the golden goose. YOU are your own golden goose. The company is just the vehicle. You must put in the work.

That said, I DO think it's important to choose your sponsor wisely. Do your research. If possible, even go so far as to call the company and ask who are some of their top sponsors/distributors and then call them. Interview them and see which one might be a fit for you.

When starting my business, I deliberately chose not to go into any MLM. I have no problem with MLMs. But I DO think that, because of the negative perceptions about MLM, you're starting with more against you than if you started a different kind of business.

I do like that MLM companies are incorporating more technology into their companies and not just making you do business face to face, although some companies still seem to support only face to face, in-person methods of business.

I still keep loose tabs on the industry though. No matter what company you join, they most likely won't give you the depth of help you really need. (Not in my experience anyway.) Here are some recommended resources for you:

        1. DaniJohnson.com (Dani Johnson was featured in the first episode of Secret Millionaire. Her business is training and supporting MLMers in all different companies. LOVE her stuff!)

        2. Mike Dillard -- MagneticSponsoring.com

        3. SmarterNetworker.com -- I don't know as much about this company, but I like what I see on their Facebook page.

        4. Michelle Pescosolido -- OnlineWealthPartner.com (Michelle Pescosolido on Facebook.)

I've been following Michelle for over a year after buying one of her Facebook training courses. She and her husband Bill are in a network marketing company together. They do very well and one of their specialties is incorporating IM with MLM, which is why I'm so attracted to them. If I were going to join any MLM, I'd probably join their team, regardless of the product just to get their training.

Michelle does a lot of free videos and trainings and they're very consistent, not here today, gone tomorrow.

So for those of you interested in MLM, I hope that helps!

        Michelle

I have been in Network Marketing or MLM for over 20 years and 7 different companies. It is a fantastic way to build an income. The company and product is not as big of an issue as a few other things.

First is Personal Development that is the reason why people fail/quit Network Marketing. Even if your not in MLM you should work on it! It will change every part of your life! Second is you need a product that you can get behind and believe in. I know people in weight loss companies and are making a killing but I have been in them and don't like them. That really does not matter that I don't like it because like I said I know people that are making tons of money in them.

I love my company and product and I am passionate about it and I believe in it 100% that is what you need to find if you are interested in this type of business look around and do your research about the company before you join. I also highly recommend looking into the training and support your sponsor and up-line will provide.

I do internet marketing as well and make good money but the residual income with my MLM is far better. I hope my 2 cents helped you out

Maybe you can confirm or deny a suspicion of mine sense you have been involved in MLM's for a while.

      1. Every MLM dries up eventually.

      2. The most successful MLM people are those that get in first

      3. The biggest names in MLM keep appearing again and again, because they transfer their downlines from one company to another as early as they can.

Don't get me wrong. If people make money with it, it's cool. I'm not tearing down anyone that makes money.

I was involved in two MLM's and didn't make any money. Actually, one of them I could have made the money. This was way back in 1997. I joined Market America under a really good guy and he did want to see me make it. He even went so far as to work one leg of the downline for me, and I had to work the other leg. Well, I failed. I got nobody else to sign up, while the leg that he worked for me exploded.

I say that all MLM's dry up eventually because.. look at Market America now. It's nowhere near the same company it was back in 97.

The other company was Internationl Heritage Inc.. Both companies based out of NC where I lived a the time. IHI got shutdown due a very corrupt news anchor who just happened to involved in Market America.

There were some good people in Market America. Some big names. I was surprised at some of the meetings. Real business people were showing up. Professionals like doctors were coming. I was totally out of my league back then. Hell... I was 17 years old and trying to network with people far above me. There was no way it was going to work.

It's good that some people make money. A lot of people don't.

        No

No... I can point you to many (most, actually) companies whose top
earners didn't join until the company was well established.

        3. The biggest names in MLM keep appearing again and again, because they transfer their downlines from one company to another as early as they can.
Not even close. Yes... there are a few charlatans out there who engage
in this questionable practice but they aren't the least bit comparable with
serious industry leaders. The biggest names in this profession have been
with their companies for many years.

Hello -I think there was an interesting article in Forbes recently on Herbalife MLM- Why George Soros' Investment In Herbalife Is Terrible News For Bill Ackman - Forbes

One of the biggest investors in the world George Soros is investing in a MLM company, Herbalife - essentially legitimizes the industry big time and a game changer. George Soros is one of the most influential investors of all time! "

Here's a quote from the article “It’s an all or nothing kind of bet. You either think it’s a pyramid scheme or you don’t and you don’t invest in a company if you think it’s a pyramid scheme or even if you think it might be one. But Icahn and Soros have invested big time.”

You can have success in MLM just like you can in Internet Marketing.

      The reality...

      Most don't.

      Why?

The same reason why most don't have success in Internet Marketing.

They don't treat MLM or IM as a business. In order to succeed you need to go to work. Show up every day and put your time in.

You CAN have success in MLM. It just a matter of being a professional, going to work, and joining a company you really believe in.

      Do the work.

I have been in several MLM's and have made some pretty decent money ( above living wages) and what i have noticed is that it really has NOTHING to do with the company, upline, product, commission pay, etc. It all has to do with you (the distributor, associate, consultant, coach, whatever). If you can build a relationship with someone and can sell you will be successful at any MLM. People dont purchase juice at $30 a bottle, $10 chapstick, vitamins at $100 a month, or $25 window cleaner because they want to they buy it because who ever is selling it to them either was trustworthy or really good at sales.

If you are really wondering what companies to look at do some research at emerging industries and go with a product there. I think most would agree health & wellness or technology.

Im over MLM's though. I got pretty burnt out trying to sling different products to the same people plus cold calling sucks!

You can make quite a bit of money in MLMs but most dont so dont sink too much money in the beginning into it. Give it a try and see what happens.

    Good luck!

MLM is the modern day gold rush, lots of amateur miners wanting to strike it rich. Especially with employment/economy in the crapper. Lots of people putting down a few bucks to buy themselves a job.

Guess who got rich during the gold rush besides a rare few who struck gold? The people who sold them shovels and gold pans.

All those MLM gold miners need tons of help with promotion after they spam their family and friends with a "billion dollar industry ground floor business opportunity!"

Someone who doesn't know how to market a business wont make any money with a MLM program or any other program. I recently joined a similar program which was created 2 years ago. This is my second month and i already have 46 guys in my team, these were recruited for free.
Bofere i start promoting and spending money like a dumb ass, first i think above my competition.
I see what everybody is doing and what they are not doing. This program that im promoting has 1000's of people spending money like crazy in ads. But they dont usually think, they see someone getting results advertising on website. The next thing you know they will be many doing the same.

Also im a member of a new program created this year. I only had to spend $500 dollars last month to recruit 78 new members. Most of them are already making money because i tell them how to find new ways to market. They get all my help, training videos, and weekly webinars from my mentor,

MLM is great. It's marketing of the future...

Actually MLM is just like word of mouth with this exception that for each new client/member/user you introduce to the product and he will buy it, you get paid. And then, if he is doing the same, you get paid again and again etc.

And you can get things cheaper than other people (depending on system)

Like anything else you need to take into consideration the compensation plan, so what you need to achieve to succeed in the company with their unique comp plan because most mlm companies have different compensation structures.

Also, you need to consider your marketing abilities. How will you generate qualified leads? How will you convert those leads to sales? How can you automate this process? How can you scale it up or down as needed?

In my opinion your marketing abilities and the companies compensation plan are the two most important factors to your success in mlm or as any type of affiliate.

I am a bit late but I have found Itworks Body Wraps to be On Fire!
They have Whey Protein and Vitamins etc. But it's the Body Wrap
that really is Crazy. Wrap your Mid section for 45 minutes and
somehow your mid section shrinks (tightens Tones Firms) After
just one wrap some have lost 2 inches around their midsection.
Which obviously gets people excited! So I think its perfect for
that American Lifestyle...Almost Instant Results...No hard work.
But the Upline is the Backbone here. Itworks is now giving out
$10k bonuses to the upline to grow it out.Just a thought...somehow
sold $550 worth my first week barely promoting anything.
