I really like Pop-Up Domination. You can have it work as a pop-up or place it within a page too.

If you are into Internet marketing long term you want to concentrate on building assets. An email list is an asset that you can use to make money over and over with, or you could even sell just like a money making website. I like email marketing and list building for that reason.

The money is in the relationship you build with your subscribers also - not just the list itself.

Treat your subscribers like Royalty. Do it right and your list (or lists) will become your most valuable business asset.

    Best,

    Andy.

    It really depends.

Some people are good at making money from lists while some people are good at making money from selling affiliate products. I think the best method to make money online is the one you personally enjoy doing.

Having said that, I believe building a list is very important. It is definitely one of the more stable ways to make money online.

    Good luck!

Email marketing can be one of the fastest and most profitable ways to make money online. A single mailing that takes minutes to write can, on the right day and with the right offer, net you thousands of dollars. A couple of days ago I made well over $3000 from one email - and later found that it had only gone to half of my list because of a hosting snafu.

So the simple answer is yes - building a list [can be one of] the best ways of making money. I've added the caveat in brackets because like all methods of Internet marketing it isn't for everybody.

You are very unlikely, for example, to build a list quickly and even if you could do that, you won't have a relationship with the people on that list. At least, not until you've earned it. And depending on your style, earning their trust could take anything from a few months to a few years.

And all that time you have got to be able to crank out quality newsletters (just 'emails' simply won't cut it) that entertain, emote, energize and educate. You've got to turn all those random subscribers into fans - and friends. Then they might trust you enough to buy what you recommend.

But beware - although it takes a long time to earn their trust, losing it can take just one ill-judged promotion of a crappy product you didn't check out well enough before recommending it.

Of course there are a lot of so-called 'email marketers' who will disagree with me. They will be of the view that you can just send out any old crap and some people will buy. And they are right - to a degree. You can make money that way. Just not very much and not over a long period. Their form of email marketing tends to need big lists and a constant stream of new subscribers to replace the hoards who unsubscribe. It is a lot of effort and a lot of work.

A good list that has been nurtured doesn't need to be big. My tiny list of under 5000 people out performs many a list ten times the size and provides me and my family with a very healthy full time income. I spend under 2 hours writing it once a week.

It is not the list that makes you the money - it is the way YOU use it.

If you have a list, you SHOULD be selling products (affiliate or your own) as an OTO or upsell.

So if someone opts in to a list and they are taken to the Thank You page for the free product, there should also be a paid offer on that Thank You page. Either an affiliate product or a paid product that's your own.

There's no reason why you can't sell affiliate or your own products on a Thank You page right after someone opts in. So not only are you building your list, but you're starting the sales process right away with your new subscriber.

Or, its better to send them just my own products ?

Building an email list is just another way of growing your client base and establishing contact online.

There is plenty of money in a good email list just as there would be in any high quallity lead.

Email lists are a great way to engage potential buyers but you can't expect to just send out sales letters. You have to provide useful, practical content to keep your subscribers on your list and reading what you send them.

The problem is that some new marketers want to send out an email and make money from it by direct sales. This only works with an established list so solo ads are an option but you can't do it with a day old list by any means.

People don't want to buy from a salesperson, they want advice from a trusted expert even if they have to pay for it. Which would you buy from?

Absolutely not. Building an email list is simply collecting email addresses.

I guarantee you that if you show me a collection of every email address in existence, I won't be able to find a single penny in there.

The money is in how much the person reading your email believes you can help them.

They really couldn't give one rats ass about your funnel, your sales pitch or your success.

They only care about their success.

So, no. The money is not in the list. The money is in how much the person reading your email believes that you can help them.

Martin wrote some very good advice there.

However, from my experience I think you're approaching list-building the wrong way.

First you must find a product or niche that you're passionate about. Then you start creating a list and providing value to them. Thinking how much money you can squeeze out of them is a very bad mindset to have IMHO.

Once they trust you they will buy from you.

Yes, some will buy at the beginning. However, the difference in conversion rate will be 1/20 to 1/300 (those who trust you vs. those who don't).

    That's just my experience.

People buy more stuff when they know, like and trust you. Also people need to be followed up with in order to buy, most people won't buy an offer first time they see it, unless they really want it.

Following up with leads, opt ins, subscribers, whatever you want to call them will help more people buy more stuff when you take the time to follow up with them properly.

  • Whats up Oliver13,

Building a list is a great way to continue to make money in any niche. This is a great long term turn around, remember it will take a while to build a good solid list.

Keep in mind while building your list, make sure to give them good quality products and information (this will build the leadership and respect factor for you) and don't constantly be sending them offers (like everyday) people will just start putting you as spam and unsubscribing.

One thing I do is send out a promotional offer about once a month, and just good training techniques as well as free useful marketing stuff weekly, This has helped my list grow as well as be very responsive went I do promote a product.

Hope this helps you out Oliver13 and to your Success,
    Have a blessed day

I view it as great long term business plan where you own the traffic, not Google or other platforms. It's not that you can't lose it but it would be because you didn't take care of the list not b/c someone decide to change there TOS.

I think of a list and traffic as two sides of the same coin,
but do focus on list-building. What makes a list better
than just raw traffic from some place is that the list is
comprised of people who know you (so they should be
    more responsive).

Others have already mentioned that relationship. It's
difficult to establish that with raw traffic since many of
those people won't really know who you are... unless you
are a bit of a celebrity... and celebrity status sort of changes
    the rules a little.

So, YES, focus on building the list, being of service to them,
and everything else will fall in place :-)

Honestly the money is NOT in the list. This very forum is full of people who have lists of thousands who cannot make any money from them, we're talking 2,000+ and no one opens their emails let alone buys.

    Why is that?

Because they build low quality lists filled with cold traffic of people who have no interest in them or what they have to say and that leads to no one opening their emails, clicking their links and no sales.

Usually they follow the squeeze page, solo ads and free ebook method which quite frankly is terrible.

If you build a list make sure you build it around something like a blog, product or service and be sure that everyone who ends up on your list does so because they WANT to be on it NOT because you forced them onto it or bribed them with a freebie.

Make sure it's warmed up traffic and not cold traffic.

Better yet build a list of buyers rather than freebie seekers. Buyers are always worth more.

I agree with Jeff. If you are into IM for longterm you should start building a list from start. This is something I did not do and now I'm missing big part of the money, but don't forget not to only spam your leads and become an authority that provides quality content instead.

I used to run a highly niched website providing DIY guides on how to mod your firebird v6.
Firebird v6 was the niche, and I owned one and pimped it out - back when I was 17. My website had quite the following - this was way before facebook and social media. I had a mailing list that I used to write to my readers when I put a new DIY online - but I remember they always asked where I bought the mods etc.

Of course I gave them direct web addresses, and phone numbers - wasn't in the IM game then, but as you can see they trusted me and asked where to buy it direct without me having to sell them anything at all.

That's kinda like saying lifting weights is the best way to become a movie star like Arnold.

It's part of the equation, but I know plenty of really crappy email marketers.

The more important variable, is how profitable is your funnel, how are you getting traffic, and does your list love you?

Most importantly, how much money is it making you, and can you continually feed your funnel with fresh leads?

I’m not sure whether building a list is the best way to make money, but it is an important step in email marketing. Without a high quality list, your email is easy to be flagged as spam and your email campaign will become unsuccessful.

When I started I began building a list and low and behold, no income was forthcoming.

Why not? The traffic quality was poor...freebie seekers.

And, I was pitching them non-stop.

So learn how to offer value. Tell stories. Entertain, do not pitch EVERYDAY, use open loops, cliffhangers and over time, your list will become more responsive.

And as has been said, size is not the be all and end all.

after all my testing and failures online, my breakthrough success, the thing that changed my life was LISTBUILDING.

It gave me access to things I thought I would never see, and met the girl of my dreams and married her. YEY!

What you have to remember is two things, with list building so I will break it down for you.

    1) Build a list of interested prospect.

    - Give them good stuff
    - treat them like a best friend do not spam them.
    - Get them to crave more of your stuff
    - make them look forward to your email in their inbox.
    - Use quirky curiosity headlines.
    - Offer low end products even for $2 if you can, and funnel the buyers into more expesive stuff.

    WHEN YOU GET PAYING CLIENTS!

    - If you do the above it will not take long
    - Segment your list, treat buyers like kings and queens and offer them more quality stuff.
    - Buyers will keep buying if you give them more stuff, and make them feel loved.
    - Have one on one conversations with them via email, and ask them what they want?
    - My profits quadrupled when I asked my paying customers what they want and gave it too them.

Do this, and test with your own niches, and I am sure you will do well.

Once you get subscribers and they know you care about them, watch the money come to you. you do this, and you will never have to chase money again. Be different, and give away quality and you will be reward. NOW GET TO WORK!

December 2012 - I direct linked to a Clickbank product and got 5,000+ hops and 1 sale.

April 2013 - I took that same link and forwarded to a squeeze page instead and got 700 subscribers, 1,000 hops, and 28 sales.

My head still hurts from the amount of times I facepalmed myself for not doing this sooner!

Bottom line, build a list. And as mentioned above, treat your list like gold.

Building an email list is for sure the best possible
    system to make money online!
I repeat it's only a system and how much money you make
depends on how you use this system.

I mean you need to build like and trust factor to encourage
people to join your list! You need also to create follow up
emails for your email marketing campaign!
This is also a field where testing and optimizing is required!

I just posted this is another thread and I will post it again here.

Below is a great example of how to warm up cold traffic BEFORE you have them opt in.

The benefits of warming up your traffic before they hand over their email is you build trust with them. They see you as someone who can deliver value and has the knowledge they need. When you give them that you don't have to bribe them with a free PDF file or video just to get them to out in an email address.

When you FORCE someone to stick their email in to get some free info they feel pissed off, you've given them absolutely nothing so far yet you want them to hand over their personal email which for all they know you'll start spamming. They don't even know if what you are offering them is any good.

This leads to an unresponsive list that doesn't open your emails or trust you enough to buy.

Forget cold traffic, squeeze pages and free ebook bribes, create a 'content funnel' and warm that traffic up before asking them for anything whether it be to opt in or to buy from you.
