Can I do this with wordpress?

I'm wondering if this is possible with wordpress....

I want to have just static html on the homepage with just an image and a "under construction" message, but I also want the functionality of wordpress to use on other pages.

I know you can set the homepage to be static in wordpress, but I want a completely blank homepage....as in nothing at all showing of the wordpress theme or anything else except the html I write. But I want to be able to use a theme and plugins on other pages of the domain in the meantime until I get my homepage figured out.

Is there some sort of plugin that allows for this? Any help appreciated, thanks!

Jon, you can install WP in a separate folded. Call it "Blog" or whatever you want. Then just load your html page to your main domain. So yourdomainname.com shows only your html and then yourdomainname.com/blog would present your WP site.

Jon, you can use this plugin

WordPress › WP Maintenance Mode « WordPress Plugins

Activate it and then your website can only be accessible after you login to the admin, so you can create the other pages, while the visitors will see an under construction message.

There are several free "under construction" plug-ins which allow you to work on your site while visitors (who are not logged in) will only see the front page you produce.

This one does the job nicely

Good tip. I just like using a s few of plug-ins as possible. Some plug-ins have compatibility issues and others slow down your site load times.

As with any of theses plug-ins - as soon as you are happy with your development, you simply un-install the plugin and you have your site exactly as you want it.

Thanks! Yeah I figured it was probably something simple like that. I'm just not familiar with FTP-ing stuff, I usually just do everything with wordpress. Good to know I can do both though, thanks!
