Why doing THIS will help you make WAY more money in your IM Biz

When you work for yourself, you have to look at being productive in a whole new way.

You're not some 9-5 drone that needs to just keep working, working, working to prove your worth.

Quite the opposite...

I'm the most productive in every aspect of Internet Marketing - when my head is clear.

You can't sit in front of the computer (or iPad in my case) and expect to keep taking profit-producing-steps.

Your work will begin feeling stagnate and agitating. You're just not made to be sitting down for hours on end, trying to increase your profitability.

Some of your best ideas for effortlessly attracting new streams of income and/or enhancing your current profit centers will come when you're far away from your keyboard.

Here's the deal:

You know more than you think you do. But you need to give your brain the time to relax and assimilate everything you're working on. You also need to circulate your blood and oxygenate your body.

So...

If you want to become more productive, more profitable and WAY happier in your IM Biz, do what I do: Yoga.

I've had brilliant ideas in down dog. And I've had even better ideas in Savasana (corpse pose.)

You have to let your mind unplug from the task at-hand to really excel in the way you want and are working towards.

For a lot of people, they can't relax because their constantly feeling like they need to be in front of the computer working.

But the best work you'll ever accomplish to produce more income has nothing to do with a computer, tablet or cell phone. Move your energy. Move your body. Unplug. Clear your head from the thought chatter getting in the way of the truly BIG ideas that will totally redefine your wallet or purse... and life.

Mark

P.S. That includes closing your browser RIGHT NOW and stepping away from the WF. Come on, you've got 30 minutes. The only potential harm is... you'll just feel better - even if your profits don't immediately explode from new inspiration.

      Mark,

      Nice post.

I do agree that getting away from the computer can really work wonders.

As for yoga, that's what works for you.

For others, it could be something different.

My favorite "idea places" are when I exercise, when I'm falling asleep at night, and during a morning shower.

It really doesn't matter what you're doing, it just has to be "your time" when you can clear your mind of other business distractions.

      Thanks,

      Steve

Excellent post Mark, couldn't agree more!

I've found that I work a lot better early in the morning, when my mind is refreshed and "clean" from all the clutter I bombard it with daily. Around lunch time it's time for a break and step away from the computer.

And most of my best ideas come to me just as I'm about to fall asleep, where I'm finally relaxing completely. I've learned to force myself out of bed at those moments and quickly write down the idea on a note pad and then go back to bed, as I almost always tend to forget what it was the next morning. I also keep that paper notepad and a pen with me when I'm out and about in case something zaps into my head.

And strangely enough, some of my better ideas have come to me while I've been shooting or photographing. Both require a lot of mental focus; there's so many things you have to think about all at once, and I often just zone out and my mind simply goes "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!" and I experience total and complete clarity. On some occasions an idea is hatched at that moment, and as soon as I've taken the shot or photograph, I've quickly jotted it down in my notepad.

Great post Mark, you're 100% right.

This is exactly why I structure my day like I do.

I'll work at 8am for an hour and a half... take a half hour to an hour break... work again for an hour and a half... then take another break... all the way through the day.

I used to try sitting for 4 to 5 hours at a time, but my productivity decreased.

It went way back up once i started staggering breaks every hour and a half.

And want one of the best ways to just have random great ideas and thoughts pop into your head? Go for a walk or jog.

I've had more winning headlines come to me while jogging than while doing anything else.

This all happens because when you're too focused on something and try to think of something for too long, it won't come to you.

but let your mind and thoughts go... your subconscious will deliver the answer.

Good post Mark, it's one we can all use as a reminder!

When my wife had built her nutrition business up and didn't need to keep her 9-5 gig anymore, she would still force herself to put in a "full day's work."

        The thing is...

In IM, you're not only allowed to live what most people might consider to be an unconventional lifestyle, it's actually better for your productivity.

You don't need to sit in front of the computer all day to be "working."

I don't jog, but I've gone for a swim and "received" an idea in the middle Castle Lake (google it) that filled me with so much excitement, I couldn't get my butt back in front of the computer fast enough. Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm actually "working," because I get such a high from it.

        However...

Experiences like that (ideas in the middle of a lake) simply wouldn't happen if I convinced myself "working" meant forcing myself to be productive - even when inspired-thought wasn't anywhere to be found.

        Shawn...

Even when newbies, who haven't achieved your level of financial success, start out in IM, they'd be smart to see how people, like you, live - so they can pattern their lives accordingly. Part of getting there (i.e. having multiple streams of passive income) is embracing the lifestyle you ultimately want to experience.

Here's something else to think about:

If putting in a couple hours of work, then taking a couple hours off (so you can do what feeds your soul) freaks you out, that's an indication you need to do it more. You aren't being lazy. Quite the opposite... actually. Discomfort is a great measuring stick for how your energy would be better spent.

P.S. Getting burnt out in IM is easy. You've got to keep rewarding yourself and embrace the unconventional lifestyle you've chosen - so you never lose the passion to keep pushing the envelope.

I actually get my best ideas and make major breakthroughs
while out going for a walk on a nature trail not too far from
my house. Ideas seem to come from nowhere, and since
I carry my iPhone with me, I simply use my voice recorder
to "make notes" so that I don't forget those ideas.

Unplugging... not trying to force solutions to problems that
I'm grappling with, works beautifully for me.

    Excellent post!

It is true we are not made to sit in front of our computers all day long -- we eventually get mentally fatigued and become less productive and creative.

Going outside and doing something active will make you feel 100 % better and help your creative juices in your mind start flowing.

So I agree 100% when starting out or if you already have a successful business - be sure to take several breaks or find a way to set aside some time away from your computer.

You sound to be inspiring. Actually you are right. Because based on my experience, I don't usually relax myself. We are in different state because I do job in the internet and it's not an IM biz. But as you said, all of us needs a rest and I realized that I will need that too.

    Gonna go try!

      Awesome post.

Another tip is something I've been doing lately and it's been helping immensely... and that is to BREATHE!

Doing deep breathing exercises are obviously very easy to do, they can be done anywhere, they relieve stress, and they help clear the mind. One of my favorite exercises is to simply breathe into your stomach through your nostrils for 3 seconds, and exhale out your mouth slowly for 6 seconds, and repeat this for a couple of minutes. You'll feel mentally and physically energized... with a lot less tension!

Great post and something I can relate to myself. I get up at 530am, drink a bottle of apples, carrots and oranges (juicer) and walk around the local park for 20 minutes. I then come back into the house and have a freezing cold shower for 5 minutes and then meditate for 20 minutes, have a healthy breakfast and then get to work. I only work for 45 minutes at a time and completely detach from my work for 15 minutes to either eat, meditate or exercise.

My rituals have had the biggest impact on my business and most of my ideas come from when I completely detach from work. The mind and body needs to be refreshed throughout the day.

You can't just sit in front of your computer for hours and hours all the time.

When ever you feel like you really need a break, take one. I usually like to watch a little TV or get out of the house for like 30 minutes.

Also, you want to take at least a day or two each week away from your computer even when you are starting out. You need to recharge yourself.

YES! I get the majority of my new ideas when I'm at the gym and not even trying thinking about work, I usually just get that Ah-Ha moment and everything clicks. I don't really think it matters what you do as long as it helps you take your mind off work and relax but for me it is definitely going to the gym.

Also If you are looking for something new to try, this is what I do when I wake up to get my day started or can't make it to the gym:

    50 jumping jacks
    50 body weight squats
    50 push ups
    50 bicycle crunches
    1min plank
    x3

Try it one time after you've been sitting in front of your computer for too long!

What they do not know is that if you want to earn money, there is no easy way in getting there. Money does not grow on trees.
    I appreciate the feedback.

It's interesting that you use the term, "money doesn't grow on trees."

This isn't a knock against you, so please don't take it that way. But if that's what you believe, I'd imagine it's difficult to walk away from the computer and create the space for inspired thought, because you always feel like you have "make it happen." Do you ever feel that way?

No, money doesn't grow on trees.

    That being said...

I've personally experienced money coming from so many different streams of income, some extremely unexpected ones, that I never know where my sales are coming from... on a daily basis. And I live my life with the tangible sense that abundance just is. I don't necessarily have to work for the profits to keep coming in.

I've already done a ton of work in product creation and partnering up in powerful JV's. Those past actions are producing more right now than a year ago. Being able to reliably bring in passive income allows me a tremendous amount of freedom, which includes working when inspiration hits.

    However...

I wouldn't have gotten there (here ;-) if I didn't take the time away from working to get hit with those game-changing ideas. I mean that literally. My biggest passive income generators came from inspired thought that hit me when I was far, far away from the computer.

    Believe me...

I'm well aware of bills, deadlines, wants, needs, desires, etc. We all have obligations that steer us back towards the keyboard. But if you're willing to believe money doesn't grow on trees, maybe you'll be equally ready to entertain that giving yourself space from Internet Marketing will help you become a more productive business owner.

    Just throwing it out there.

Yes you have to factor breaks into your day and also make sure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day. When you take a break make one of your breaks a time when you can stretch. Sitting all day is not good for your body - your muscles will tighten - so get up and move around. Make sure you till your head from side to side to release any built up tension.

    Great Post.
I used to get out an run first thing in the morning and did Yoga 3 times a week in the afternoon but these days i take a break in the late afternoon and do Yoga 1 day and go to the gym the rest of the week.
I find it works best for me, but i notice a big difference in productivity when i get back to work after that break.
The importance is to take a break and do some kind of exercise no matter what.

I also work at a standing desk at the office . It can little tough to get used to it in the beginning but i notice i get more done and see more benefits of it.
