I have personally never had any problems with them, the only issue I ever had come up was when somebody paid for a domain with a stolen/defrauded account and they asked me to scan and fax them my utility bill and drivers license and the account was back to normal the next day.

Hah! Funny you asked that given what I've been through with paypal this last week.

It of course depends on what you are doing. But I blogged about my recent experience along with paypals response here:
Be careful when changing credit card information on PayPal | Rita Wilhelm's Blog

Lesson for me: If you have to replace a card on Paypal, first add the new card, and then delete the old card if you have subscriptions. If not, all your subscriptions will be canceled.

Thanks for the tip Rita. I have never had a problem with PayPal. 90% of the money I make online is sent to my PayPal account. I try to keep as little money as possible in my PayPal account. I move money to my back account as soon as it goes over the limit I set.

I once bought a domain for $5k and the guy didn't even own it. I paid for it before I figured this out and PayPal only covers up to $2k when you get scammed, so let's just say I was a bit scared. Luckily I was able to get the guy (college kid that had no idea what he was doing) refund my money.

kb24- If you are outsourcing, you might set up an escrow service. Here's a blog with some helpful info on that:

That "sucks" site is years old - and developed by people selling an alternative to paypal. It was a complaint site begun long before ebay bought paypal and it's a useless reference that gets mentioned over and over.

using them to ousource some tasks
Not sure what you mean by that - how do you "outsource" a payment processing site?

        Kay,

I agree with you about the "sucks" site. I have to say that PayPal had done a lot to earn their bad reputation back then, but I think they are much better now.

As far as the "outsource" statement by the OP, and I was confused a bit at first, but I figured they meant that they wanted to use PayPal to pay people they will outsource tasks to.

If you are serious with using Paypal, give them all the information they need to correctly identify you. Also try to get an account manager. It won't get you out of trouble all the time, but it might save your ass in some cases.

I would have to say that PayPal has come a long way in recent years. I still use it quite a bit for simple things. I think their fees are a bit high. However, I just got a merchant account that I think I'll start using more.

If that's the case, and the OP wants to use PayPal pay people that they're outsourcing to, it's worth mentioning that PayPal only works for certain countries.

    Here's the official list:

Paypal does have there problems but on the flip side they are the majority when buying things online. Everyone uses them and I have rarely had any personal issues with them.

I never had problems with paypal. I use it to buy stuff online and I also receive payments from the wok I did for my clients. The fees are almost negligible. Plus a lot of countries now honor payments via paypal.

  • I've had nothing but good experiences with PayPal, both the personal version and the business version. I sometimes get annoyed at the processing fees, but that's just business.

I have been using PayPal now for over 4 years, both for personal and business reasons, and have had no problems whatsoever.
However, to be on the safe side, I keep very little in my account at any one time.

The only problem I ever had was, when you update update any credit card or bank details, any subscriptions you have are automatically cancelled and you then have to re-subscribe.

150 Million+ Accounts. Perhaps, the most fraud infested type of consumer business. I am surprised they handle things as well as they do. I don't think most of us could do business without Paypal.
IF you have a list of 10 THINGS YOU MUST DO to make money online. I am sure Paypal is one of the top 3.
    Highly recommended.

I have used Paypal for a number of years (over 6), and have never had any issues with them.
I have had a couple of people try to scam me by requesting refunds, which I paid, and then complaining to Paypal the refunds were never sent. Paypal was able to easily check to see the refunds were completed.
I like the fact that I can easily transfer funds into my bank account with one click.
I have yet to find an easier and more accepted alternative.
